Drag Races at Kingdon Air Strip in Lodi Ca. Oct 7 !!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by caddychris, Jul 17, 2006.

  1. O.K. Heres the deal. I just got off the phone with a very nice lady named Dianne, and here's the deal. $20 gets you and all passengers into the car show, $20 more and you can race all day, 7:00a - 7:00p. There will be OSHA tech inspections, so safety equipment will be required, based on your car.
This is the first time that they have had races were in a very long time.
Kingdon was a sanctioned strip in the 50's and early 60's, so there is a lot of history involved. Hell, my dad sed to race his car there in the late 50's.

Please, Please, Please, Mark the date! If we can get enough cars there, they will do it again next year. We need something like this on the west coast, and Dianne is going all out on this, so take advantage and let's race!!!
All races will be timed and Grudge match races encouraged. You can finally prove to your buddy that you have the fastest car. And get a slip to rub in his face once in a while.

You know I'll be there, So get your asses there too.

For more info you can post questions here, P.M. me, or call Dianne at
    (209) 478-3743 or (209)598-7955

this is great... are there any year cutoffs? or is it, run what ya brung? what is OSHA, do they have a website? never heard of them before.

  3. All years welcome, But let's try to get the oldies out there so we don't get overwhelmed by Camero's and Chevelles. I don't Know anything about OSHA
tech Rules so I'll try to find out more, but it sounds like they just want to make sure you have good tires, firewall , brakes, seat belt, and the likes.
They want people to race, so I think it'll be fairly easy to pass if you have a sound car.

  4. I marked the date on the H.A.M.B. calendar. Please ask if they'll freak out over propane- I wanna see if I can lay down a 17 in the quarter-mile.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

  5. Dianne did say something about no Crazy additives, no Alchohol, Nitro Meth, Etc. But, nothing about Propane. If your looking at 17's you're probably O.K., but i'll look into it more for you.

P.S. I forgot some more Rules (I hate that word). Must be 18 and licenced drivers, car must be registered and insured, and I think that's it. Step on long pedal, and Go! Step on short pedal and Stop. Can't beat that with a stick!

Thanx for marking the calandar for me, I woulda spaced it!

  6. That's the weekend of the Hot Rod Reunion!! I love Kingdon, but what on earth are they thinking?? I'd love to make the Kingdon deal, but here's the delima… Street cars vs Nitromethane. Gas cars vs meeting my heros.

I hope they do this more than once. I thought only the Good Guys had the crust to schedule events that conflict with the "Must Do" events.

    Sheesh!

  7. I did'nt realize the two events were on the same weekend. I wanna go to the reunion too. Damn, maybe Dianne can reschedule. I'll call her. If anything changes I'll let you know.

  8. O.K. Dianne siad that they booked this a long time ago, and can't change the date because they had too arrange for the airport to close for 24 hrs. Guess you have to decide between racing or watching... I'm racing. I have missed the reunion before, I can miss it again. Especially, since this is the first time in forever that they've let anyone race here.

This conflict is too bad. Kindgon is the first drag strip I ever went to, hitching a ride with some older guys in 1959. I'd love to race there but I'm not going to miss the Reunion and the RattleCan. Maybe Diane can do a little more homework and set this deal up again later in the year or even next year.

  10. I'm sure she will check the schedule better next year, but there will not be a next year if no one shows up this year. I'll do what I can to make it an anual event ( better date, of course).

  11. I sure hope Dianne can either change it, or better yet, do it more than once a year. I don't have a choice, the Reunion is where the Vipers throw our biggest deal of the year. We've been set up under the windsock, at the top of the pits since for ever. Ask any long time attendee about the Reunion. Best thing of the year, IMO.

  12. Chili - Looked for you at the March meets, but could'nt see much through the rain! Was hoping to get some of that famous chili of yours. You & your crew will have to forgive me if I don't make it down, an oportunity like this does'nt come around often, especially in my own back yard. Maybe next year!

  13. We'll be there next time, Chris. I understand wanting to support the stuff in your neighborhood. Have fun, man. I'll save ya a bowl next trip.

  14. Awesome I can't wait, Thanks. I'll do what I can to make it happen again next year, so you guys can come, I Que a mean Brisket.

  15. Chris, the Viper BBQ lives in Yuba City. We'll haul it there to give you a place to put your meat. I mean that in a hetro way, OK?

Who is running the event? Make sure that they get 800 flyers to me. I will put them in the Billetproof goodie bags for FREE!

  17. Wow, thats totally cool Kirk, thanks, I'll see if I can get them over to you. P.M. me an adress or whatever so I can get them to you.

Phil- that BBQ is bad ass! What, are we looking at about an 8 second burger...?

  18. This monumental beyond anything I thought was monumental.

My buddy Tim's Roadster (see Asphalt Invitational coverage) ran there from the early to late 50's.

My '55 Chevy I am restoring (as a drag car) ran there in the 60's...

Man... I'm at a loss for words.

    Sam.

Daryl... think about it... the RCN and the CHRR will run again next year... this may be a chance ina lifetime deal.

    Sam.

Main runway is 3705 x 60 feet. OSHA rules probably means Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Feds). Need a bunch more information, like mufflers, is there going to be lights or a flagman, stuff like that.

    Kingdon Strip

[edit: I had the wrong airport, sorry]
