I was at Yellow River when it became "infamous". There used to be some great races there though. Hotest SS and FX racing around.

The last race I attended at Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway:

  3. Falconred, Here are before and after shots of the starting line at the old Atlanta Speed Shop strip. The Simmons photo shows Buster Couch as the starter. The bottom photo is one I shot about 3 years ago from approximately the same vantage point of the Simmons' shot. The old strip is now the main "drag" through a subdivision. Sad.

Indeed, Pete Millar had an affinity for fuel burning Fords. The coupe had a nitro fed 289. It was "damaged" when upon returning from Sweden it fell from the dock into the ocean. Rust devoured the thing.

Potter also built dragster chassis for some folks. He later became a pro-golfer.

Eddie Hill, Green Valley Raceway, 1965. Eddie could sit like this for long periods of time, just working away on the car. Note the fan friendly (and wonderful) absence of pit ropes.

I believe Metalshapes is a moderator. (right?) Look at the top of the page.

And if Metalshapes isn't a mod, Royalshifter (who started the thread) asked that the posts be kept to 1968 and older.

Is this '63 Ford the "White Ash Speed Shop" car or ... ? Do you have any more information on the S/S pictures that you've posted? Any chance of getting higher resolution copies? I'm a motorsports artis and my main interest is the S/S-F/X cars of the early 1960's. [email protected]

sixties style, great photos! Brezee Bros Crosley is THE definitive Crosley altered to me. The best looking, one of its type ever built. Fast, too!
Thanks for a great photo of it I'd never seen before...

Who drove the Ramchargers in 65? I know that Merek Chertkow piloted the car in '66.

This is classic shot that would make a great t shirt logo. You can just hear the engine slowing down as the chute pops. I accompanied my dad and uncle only one time to San Gabe. My uncle had a friend who raced a B or C/dragster and he had another friend who had a drag bike that never got off the line. I was 5, and I recall that it was pizza oven hot that day resulting in me getting sun burned bad!!! Mom berated dad all weekend for not having me wear a hat. A year later I went with them for a night race at Fontana. Dad says, "Wear a hat son." "But its night time dad." "I dont care, wear a DAMN HAT."

This was one of the coolest cars-all steel, not a speck of plastic. And yet it ran in the 7's by late 69, early 1970.
