You are correct. First run I was REALLY easy on it off the line, and second run it just went poof. It also had #24 nozzles in it that were fouling plugs every run. SUPER rich. I have a myriad of changes that will happen before it runs again: Crank snout support, #18 nozzles, CP pistons, TA Rollers, Nitrided crank, etc....etc.... The Strange bird will be brought back to life bigger and stronger!

Jack's Hudson was purchased in early 64 by a Portland,Or stock class racer named Ed Weir. We raced Ed in the Hudson at Madras Dragway that year with a 52 Olds and came up loser like everyone else. Ed sold the car to another Portland racer Marv Walker who continued with success. I wonder it is today.

  4. Drag Strip is Pomona Winternationals, either '63 or '64 based on the California "black plate" (issued in '63)

A few years ago, at E'Town's FUNNY CAR REUNION, I did a long and in-depth interview with Jim "Fireball" Shores, the fellow who was half of the "Shores & Hess" Gasser team... Jim Shores had a huge scrapbook with him, stuffed with pics and press clips from his Gasser and "Fireball" Vega years (you see me holding it in the pic below)... Jim had a press clip in the book telling of a time when one of their Gassers drove off the track and went into the woods-- I spent a good deal of time with him going page by page through the scrapbook, we (Drag Racing Underground) put the whole interview on our FUNNY CAR REUNION RAW dvd... It's an honor to meet REAL pioneers like Jim Shores-- And be able to give them an outlet to share their stories and tales of drag racing's past... Below is the pic... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Jim Shores and I get down to the nitty gritty of drag racin' history for the Drag Racing Underground camera-- It's hearin' tales like when his wayward Gasser went flyin' into the woods that makes me love my job...

didn't we just have a similar discussion on this a couple of weeks ago and stated that nostalgia race cars do not belong in this thread? even if they are pre-68ish cars and flathead-powered fed?

well, now there's (above) something you won't see at a nostalgia race, right there...
Thanks, Skip, for being such a diplomat, not a dip...a diplomat :).
