    Saw the Chevy a go go at Newport Drag Strip in the late 60's. Raced PEE WEE WALLACE VIRGINA TWISTER . Remember seeing the nova with all 4 wheels off the ground . Some great racing at this 1/8 mile track ,I was 12-14 years old picked up trash ,mowed grass, rode on the water truck watering the dirt road into the track just so we could get in free that night to watch racing.

    Thanks Ross Gould

    Dean;
    I know you are just funning but here's the skinny................ The 4 or 6 or even 8V stood for the number of cylinders the motor had and the 71 stood for the cubic inches in each cylinder. 4 71 had 284 cubic inches and so on.

    I know the last shot of Russ Collins on his drag Honda is not a car but who could forget seeing that bike go through the lights at Ontario or Irwindale with Russ trying to control that high speed wobble it had.

    Shift to Pheiffer's. Pheiffer's used to be a speed shop in the Albany, NY area. My Dad used to send me there to pick up what ever parts he needed. That was 30 years ago now. cool picture thanks.

    Dynoroom, those are two explosions I don't remember seeing before. There's one of a FED with the engine about 8 feet in the air, think the tires are still smoking too. Anyone have it?

    These pixs are from NY National speedway in 1969. Notice the slash on the 1/4 panel it originally was sponsored by Jack Merkel racing then Jack went to work for S&K in Lindenhurst LI hense the shoe polish lettering of S&K and Jack Merkel whited out (look close)
