"Shedlik" did the paint. He was renowned for his rainbow frosting effect. Sort of like "Molly's" east coast counterpart I guess.

I had no doubt about the wheelstand, The picture just looks kind of pixelated. And the angle of the engine to the chassis was a bit drastic.

Shedlik also did the paint on the Gate Job funny car driven by Pete Gates. Shedlik did a great job painting.

Look more closely at the angle of the heads/valve covers. Pontiacs.

  20. Here's the shot of the Mickey Thompson Pontiac twin I took at York US30 in '62. Clearly shows the rail and trailer with Pontiac lettered on the side in the pits. As you can imagine, we Easterners were very impressed when the west Coast folks came east on tour.

How far back do you have to go to find Pontiacs with the exhaust spread out like these instead of the siamesed center exhausts?
I don't recall ever seeing that exhaust arrangement on a Pontiac.
Or was Mickey making other heads prior to the Hemi Heads for Ponchos?

  23. Yo Baby...Mickey had lots of resources to produce one off bits and pieces. I've not thought about it for 50 years, but I'm sure there more than a couple Poncho experts who can add some information. Maybe start a seperate thread using these photos.

Didn,t the Pontiacs have a mag at the rear of the engine? Possibly small block Fords?

Do any of you guys have shots of the "Double Eagle". Twin 354 injected Hemis? I have to reproduce the headers on that car for a guy restoring it.
    Thanks,

The only factory-produced Pontiac heads without the center exhaust ports siamesed together were the rare tunnel-port Ram Air V heads that didn't see the light of day until 1969. Obviously this was long after the pic of the MT rail. Since Mickey was working extensively with Pontiac back then, he may have gotten a one-off (or, well, two-off) set of heads or developed a set of his own heads prior to the Hemi heads he marketed for the Pontiac block.

A lot of innovation was going on back then, so it wouldn't surprise me if MT gave it a try.
