Could it be T C Lemons, Garlits partner/crew chief about mid life? Unsure I’ve only seen pictures of him when younger and older with gray beard and hair.

 

No, I met TC and spent an hour talking with him, by my recollection that guy is too tall and TC was never that heavy either. I think he may have been a Car Craft writer or maybe even one if the many editors that mag had over the years.
