    Pipe.jpg

What's this pipe? Part of a flaming burn-out system?

The now obvious answer is two posts down. Thanx!

    Hello,
To my old eyes, it looks like the end of a rolled up tarp separating the hot motor from the body. There are too many dents in the pipe and it looks like someone rolled the tarp up and placed it strategically.

Originally, it looks like a pipe, but what is that "thingy" above and resting on the body? I have looked at old NANOOK photos (not repop current ones) and the body is painted. So, the roadster is resting, possibly between rounds at Lions Dragstrip, so the shield is rolled up to prevent body paint or glass melt. IMHO

You mean the sleeve of a fire suit jacket, (NOT a tarp !)..!
Not many tarps I've seen with zippers and sleeves.

I wonder if it was during the filming of Hot Rod Herman.

Looks like a bladder style accumulator which uses a nitrogen pre charge in an internal bladder. They may have used that as a way to supercharge the motor. Possible, I suppose. And see the two pressure vessels in the background for filling (?). Bosch 9049018597406.png

If I remember correctly it was a compressed air or oxygen system for pressurizing the intake in an attempt to avoid the horsepower drain of the conventional GMC blower. Mickey Thompson experimented with it too. I think it worked ok but NHRA didn’t like the safety aspects of it and decided to ban it. Those were the good old days of innovation and experimentation.

The same concept is used for launching small drone aircraft.
