Graham Withers' American Airlines dragster, most likely at Surfers Paradise Raceway in Queensland, Australia with "Pommie" Pete Allen at the wheel. And no, he did not need any more traction as this was in the days before slider clutches.
Here is my shot of the same car coming in to the traps at that track. Not that the driver's helmet evidently was not strapped on very tightly.

Unknown (to me) street roadster at Fremont.

    scotties alton.jpg
The former Scotty's Muffler Service roadster, I think under new management from owner Bob Baugh, at Alton IL ...reportedly the roadster still exists somewhere, as does the Ardun.

I think that this was Ray Golightly, from Colorado. Packard power.

Luther Wheat ran in the central California area for years with his Chevy 6 engines, very competitive, photo from the American Hot Rod Foundation.

This is why modern Funny Cars and Dragsters (maybe even Pro Stock) do NOT use the wheel studs as drive components any longer.
There is five big triangles that are part of the hub, that locates into the back of a Nitro/Alcohol wheel center/hub.
The studs ONLY job today is to hold the wheel against the hub, NOT to drive the car.

The hub drive deal is only mandatory on the nitro burning big show cars. The pro stockers still use flange type axles (no floaters) although some use a double bearing deal.

    xydias dragster .jpg
Charles Fawcett posted this picture on a FB site I moderate, and I am reposting it here with his permission. This is Alex Xydias' dragster with an injected Ardun, taken at Pomona in 1956. Alex had a recent birthday (97, if I remember right), and Charles presented a framed version of this picture to him, which he signed. The picture is very rare as there are only two other known pictures of Alex's dragster, both with the blown Ardun, on Don Ewald's site. In the background is the team of Frank "Ike" Iacano and Dale Lambrose, both running GMCs, and possibly Ed Losinski's dragster at right behind the green Merc.

  16. Here’s an reprint of an early photo of the Greer,Black and Prudhomme car, seems it wore red before it got it’s famous yellow paint scheme. IMG_0050.JPG

my era -late 50's -60s. FYI to all in the group, due to my age (78) and lack of help/means to do it alone I sold Nitro Therapy AA/FD, it is not fair to ask help of others- they have their lives to deal with as well. mixed emotions -really loved the car and fun with it, but reality bites. thanks to all in the site who have been instrumental in making all this happen anyway. still around -no dragster. what is in the future? wait and see. thanks to all.
