Thanks, Charlie. I have old NHRA rule books on my old computer, I'm going to have to get all that stuff off of it before I forget it again.

Hope the welds on the car frame were better than on the headers

Pretty rough. It also looks like the plug wires could get a little warm at speed.

I'm not sure on this one, maybe Keeter & Stewart? I guess that this is perhaps '62 or '63.

Mike Marinov from Milwaukee. blown Chevy, at the NHRA Nationals, photo from the Dave McClellan files. Mike came to Bakersfield and really put on a show.

Denny Andrews in the Andrews, Mankhin (sp?), and Snodgrass Ford-powered altered, which later got a Mustang body and became "Psycho." Denny went on to a fuel dragster, which he gold-leafed the cowl...but unfortunately he blew the engine at San Gabe and destroyed it when it went off track...he worked with me at Blair's, great engine guy.

Brisette, Brammer, and Herbert...SPE car, I later got the nose from this car and put it on my B/FD.

Willie's Pie Wagon, from Vista...Clyde Wilson, if I remember right....light blue, this car ran at lost of SoCal tracks with a gas flathead, and won often.....but my guess is that the Fiat with the blown Chevy in the other lane probably won this race.

Jerry Baltes at the Pop Rodding meet, 1964. This car was reproduced, then the original was found and restored so now there are two of them.

40 Willys: primered, black, moon discs who is in front of the Grist Bros

Hello, (posted on the Willys thread.too)
Here is another mystery Willys from 1960. This action does not happen often, but who is in front of the A/Gas Grist Bros Willys at Lions? It is a rare sight to see someone getting that much of a jump at the start in the A/Gas ranks, especially against the A/Gas record holder in the West. The norm is that the Grist Bros. would be the ones doing the hole-shot. It looks like a HOWARD CAM sticker on the rear panel of this mystery Willys. But the name of the driver and owner is still a question mark.

    Any help is appreciated...Thanks.

Elmer Snyder, early '50s, Elmer, better known as "unsprung" transitioned from this coupe to a dragster that, as of a few years ago, he was still running...

Dick Belfatti's "Shadow" in Arizona...Dick, like others who ran the famous Speed Sport scoops, was friends with the Speed Sport crew and the Greek....he was badly burned driving an earlier fueler, so turned the driving chores over to others, Bobby Vodnik, for one. Dick was from Willow Grove, PA.

Lakewood Muffler roadster at Pomona, photo from the Norm Grudem collection. The caption says "Red Cagle," probably a nickname for Clarke Cagle, who owned the Ardun that powered this car. Early '50s.

  28. Dave, I met Elmer at the first Eagle Field meet. He has run his flathead dragster at every meet there since. In his 80's he is still showing the young guys how to kick ass with a fuel flathead. Even at his age, you will not put a hole shot on him, his reflexes are as good as ever. The man is an inspiration.
