That tire smoke is the stuff the cartoon guys just make look so good.

 

I just went through our TwoToGo and haven't been able to ID this Twin.

 

The 40 coupe is "Coney Island Ralph" the 33 looks like the Antignano Bros, but I'm not sure. It also looks like the Willys a few posts up that says Hines body shop on the spare tire. Also seems like Islip speedway an 1/8 mi. track on LI a long time ago.

From George Klass....Moss & Morgan....There can't be many "Moss's" in Amarillo, so my guess is that this is Jack Moss, who went on to be a finalist at the '55 NHRA Nationals with his "Rambling Ram" Dodge powered dragster, and later his twin-Chevy dragster....and the "Morgan" might be Don Morgan who bought the Waters & Murray '29 drag roadster from California and added a blown motor -- he was also from Amarillo, TX....(picture below)...(gotta love the "I do yard work" on the Chevy behind the Lincoln)


I am embarrassed to post this...because before the lettering went on Dyno Don's Chevy, he took it for a test drive on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. He pulled up next to a guy in a '30 Ford roadster with a 324" Olds (me), and challenged me to a street race. I stupidly accepted...didn't realize that this was 409 Chevy tuned by the master, and before we reached the other side of the cross street I could already see his taillights....and it was right down the street from Bob's Big Boy......


From George Klass...Jim "Jazzy" Nelson.....even ran a radiator....this car could run competitively with the dragsters of the time...around '55


Dave Crowe in the Lakewood Auto Parts Bantam competition coupe at the '56 NHRA Nationals...he is waving but his meet is over as the car blew a rear end, locked it up, and went on the hook courtesy of the National Guard, who brought in this heavy duty wrecker just in case....this car later set the CC record at Lions with a 139 pass in '56....354" Chrysler on fuel
