Jim Nelson at Paradise Mesa...Jim was a member of the Oiler's Car Club, and went on to found Dragmaster, built a bunch of dragster chassis'....

From the American Hot Rod Foundation...Tony Nancy towing to some drag strip, running the Sparks & Bonney blown flathead...These guys ran first rate equipment, this roadster ran in the high 130's on fuel, which was really good for the mid-50s....and this is how you got to the drag back then, flat-towed, which is why many race-only cars had taillights and license plates

This is the photo that was on the cover of Life Magazine in 1957 covering a story on Drag Racing...I think it was taken at Ft. Worth, TX...don't know the car....pretty good altitude by the starter.

Gene Winfield tries out his "Thingie" at Salinas in 1951, though it would be mostly a lakes car. Gene is still going strong, running custom clinics and has reproduced this car with an old T coupe body he found on the way back from Bonneville...Notice that even in 1951 he ran slicks.

No ID on this BBC car (thanks to Rooman: Bob Keith in the Courtesy Chevrolet dragster at Surfers Paradise International Raceway, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. This photo is from the US Drag Team tour down under and this is the car that replaced the one the we were discussing last week (the Ray Evernham restoration of the Dos Palmas Machine car).

Mulligan in the eyes at Riverside...this may be a repost, though there are numerous shots like this, often of cars blowing up in the lights (that's where it usually happened). Motor is still together here...the spectator bridge at Riverside ran over the top end so it was a great picture place...

Zeuschel, Fuller, & Prudhomme, at Fontana. Car ran in bare metal for a while then got a gray paint job...

This photo shows current owner Lex Swayn and the late Bob Keith at Willowbank Raceway (also in Queensland). Here is a link to the story about the restoration/re creation; drcreview.com/news.asp?art=330

That's a great batch of shots jer, especially this on-fire twin.
Every time I see a photo of drag strips in farm country (I assume) like this, I wonder how the farmers ever got any milk out of their cows that wasn't curdled.

Never knew there were so many twin engine dragsters.
Were more of them located on the west coast then the east coast back in those day's.

There are many, many more than what's been shown here. Here are most of the pioneers from the early 50's to 1960. 1-CE-5[1].jpg
