That Willys had quite a racing history up here in the Northwest. It belonged to a couple of friends of mine, John Anderson and Chet Thomas. When they built it around '62 it was powered by an injected 421 Pontiac and sported the original '36 front sheet metal. They switched to the SBC for some time, and then took on a 3rd partner, A-3.jpg A-4.jpg A-1.jpg A-8.jpg A-9.jpg Jim Barnard. Jim had a AA/FD, and pulled the engine to add some excitement ! They ran the car in AA/FA, with Chet driving, they ran in the 7's at 190. Jim went on to win T/F at some big events later on, and we just lost Chet about a month ago.

Parked next to the Shig, Norton, Peach 57 is their record holding 55, which was owned and normally driven by Bill Peach. Flat tow these to Indy or Half Moon Bay, win your class, and flat tow back to LA. Their E/G record still shows in the drag racing museum at Half Moon Bay Bakery, that time driven by Ted Radoumis, another of the Oscar Gregory Chevrolet team. His D/G '55 had J&S Speed Center sponsorship on doors.

Art Chrisman at Saugus, maybe '54 or '55, looks like it is still flathead powered

Looks like an early sprint car taking a crack at Pomona, notice the pump house is still there at the end of the strip...this might be around '53.

I don't know where Brighton is, but 109 is pretty good for a V8-60...not sure of the year but this has to be a really early slingshot

I found half a dozen old Super Stock & Drag Illustrated magazines in a second hand bookshop. Here's John Mulligan haulin' in a bitchin' Leslie Lovett shot from a February '69 feature on the new Woody car.
    Hope it's not a repeat.
