So many amazing pics here. Here's my contribution, from down in New Zealand. Paul 'Pins' Sattler's Vindicator FED, shot at the opening of a new drag strip 2014.
Gotta love em and what a trip to drive one.
They always put on the Best Show of all the cars racing.
Better every time I check on this thread. Keep it up, thanks Rick. Any photos of the original Bad News Coupe?
Classic shot of Gary Cagle. Maybe '59 or so? No face mask, before their time, at best racers either wore goggles like this or the Bell bubble face shield (which didn't do well in a fire!). Looks like a chain blower drive, right side steering, homemade frame. Gary would come into Blair's when I worked there to buy fuel, once in his police car, which we treaked in the parking lot as he was inside....Gary was a racer, plain and simple!
Troy, if you see this, was this the car he crashed in Kansas? I saw it run at Henderson, NV, right after the '59 Smoker's meet, didn't win (Tony Waters did), but ran really strong on a track that got sandy and slippery pretty fast.
Dave Marquez's roadster, not sure that Dave still owned it when this picture was taken, he ran an Ardun in it, beautifully constructed, but sold it, it went either to Tennessee or Alabama, ran a SBC and apparently disappeared. Anyone know what happened to it?
This might be Jay Cheatham's 5-window, track is either Fremont or Half Moon Bay (I am guessing the latter)...
The Buntline Special, creative modified roadster that MattB is recreating, visit his thread on this site, really good work!
These and the Gary Cagle picture came from the George Klass collection, which he faithfully updates almost daily...thanks again, George!
I agree. I've read stories about the diff breaking loose & spinning. These guys had their butts strapped in right above it
KINGFISH - temporarily not in motion, nor still in Springerville. AZ
That looks bad!
I'll bet that's Cadillac Firemist Green. Came out a few years before Chevy's Rally Green. Great color.
