While we are on gloom & doom, this is the darndest thing I ever witnessed.
Another reason added to the list that made me quit.

I love seeing live footage of the old Street Eliminator from some industrial CD's/VHS I have. Cars launch all over the place while the driver bangs through the gears. Besides the cool Henry J awaiting its turn, look at all the other classic bodied gasers in the background awaiting their turn in the staging lanes.

Another street roadster from some of my old photos at Indy. Can't remember any details other than it looked and sounded good off the line. Tom S.

Obvious class winner as denoted by the "T" sticker palstered on front fender.

It could have been the winner or the runner up as both cars in the final run would have had the T sticker for the trophy run.

les hawkins once told me they knew they weren't up to win a round they were in and put some devcon in one of the headers to give the competition a false indication that they had a valve going. as i remember, the ploy worked and they won the round.

don't remember what car it was, but for some reason i think gary southern's name was tied to this story, but so many of les's stories involved gary, i might be mixed up.

  13. Garlits says he used to pour STP in the headers sometimes to fake out the competition as well.
All's fair...in love and drag racing!

    This site just plain rocks!

  15. Another cool Garlits trick was installing a switch in one of his cars labeled "traction", with various settings. Of course the switch was connected to nothing, but the other guys went nuts trying to figure out what it did and how it worked.

Only a few lame Instamatic shots that are not exactly Hamb mat'l. Not much going on it looks like today, so here goes. Censor can cut em' if they don't like em'.
Can't recall anything about the blk street roadster, but the blown small block altered was wild as any on the track.
We watched closely to see what Reuter,Krebaum&Parker front motored car in the last shot was going to do the A/D record in comp. I took this shot back home to show what the future for injector setups would look like. Tom S.

The street roadster looks a little like Neil Mahr's car.

I believe it, somewhere I read that Ivo did the same trick to either Garlits or Prudhomme, maybe Garlits learned it from him??

What they would do for an advantage. Nothing surprises me anymore. Love talking to the old racer. When I told Mikio I posted what he said he just jiggled.....

Thanks Merek, that's who I was thinking of. Yellow with bright Red numbers and lettering. I remember you driving out there a few times at Pomona, worked there late '61 to early '64
