It is nearing interior time on my car so my thoughts have been turning to all things leather. I have a couple of questions for the forum. 1. Carpet, do you add it to the door panel and kich panels? 2. Map pockets (pretty self explanatory)? Post up some pictures please and help me out. Here is one that @DDDenny likes and I have saved as well with both carpet and pockets. and here is another I have hung onto that has both elements I have always loved this picture, map pocket, no carpet Show me what you like or what you don't. Looking for ideas
The carpet on the panels would be a matter of preference and function. If your car interior is very compact inside and low, you may find yourself hitting those area with your feet if you use the car a lot. I would recommend, if the car is assembled/driveable, tape in a few pieces of card board or just blue tape in those areas. Then drive the car or just get in and out of it (at different speeds). See if your feet scrape. Sometimes you don't realize where your feet hit when you get in a car. Map pockets finish a door panel. Don't forget if you have a door hand or pull to leave room.
I have covered a few hundred of them, I like carpet on the lower door and if it works , I like full carpet kick panels.
These are all good pics and ideas. I have a lot of planning to do to, this is very helpful. Arm rest? There is another item I have not considered,
Here are a few that @31Vicky with a hemi posted on my other thread. Some do and some don't and some have 1/2 done. I never gave it much thought but if it were a really nice interior in crowded footwell I think I'd have to have something down there for protection. Do they have door panel condoms ? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/truck-into-a-coupe-my-next-pet-project.850807/ 31Vicky with a hemi, 53 minutes ago !Report!
Another option is chrome or satin stainless kick panels over the leather. In my mind, I picture them just big enough and shaped to float over the sweet spots, with a 3/16" rolled bead around the edge and held on with chrome, oval head screws and countersunk washers (aka: finish washers). I do like most all of the carpet examples above. They seem well thought out and blended in nicely.
My dad found an old real leather couch and salvaged the pieces off of it and had a guy make this. I love the outcome. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
