Been sort of looking for some traditional aircleaners for my 6X2 and was wondering if anyone still made these aircleaners? But in chrome I think the look pretty damn sweet on a traditional rod!

I've seen the aircleaner itself with the finned top, but not that "insert". It would probably be fairly easy to find someone that does laser cutting (waterjet) to cut you a strip about 12 inches long and 3 inches wide and you could just tack weld the ends then paint em. You could do any pattern you want really. Could be really neat!!!

I thought I had the only one of those! I'll dig mine up and post a pic. The painted insert was originally chrome as well. Mine has surface rust, but still has it's chrome. I have also seen these in 4bbl versions too.

  5. how were they made originally? they didn't have water jets or laser cutters back then..

I have four of those. The tops and bases are chrome. Three have the ribbed insert and one is not ribbed but chromed.

They are not for sale....and there is a line if any such sale occurred.:)

They're stamped metal, like that stuff they sell at Lowes only "V8" patterned.

Here is a monster pic of them.

Wow the pics of your air cleaners are making me jealous! I really want to find 6 of them or posibly have someone make some if anyone knows who or how i can have the inserts made? It would be a money maker if someone began to reproduce them!

I just sent my buddy a message that runs a machine shop down here. We'll see what he says about if he thinks it would be worth it to make the inserts? Really doesn't look that bad to me, but what do I know!!!

They were available for the early 4 bbls too. I found just the facing to use with my old 4 bbl

The red one above is mine. It has been repainted to make a pair.

I don't know who made them but many people sold them...Almquist, Honest Charlie etc. It took me several years to find a mate. I hope they never repop them.:D This is a 1960 catalog.

I'll give the box a look a little later to find out the manufacturer.

I'm sure they wouldn't be hard to reproduce, but I don't know if there would be any legal issues with patent or anything like that.

I'm kinda with tommy on hoping no one reproduces them. I was able to gather mine in a series of "right place/right time" events over maybe 3 or 4 years of looking.

i agree on not repop'ing them. it took me about 3 years to match up a pair and cost a bunch. but, time marches on and if there is enough demand?????

Of course you can! Just come pry them out of my cold, dead hands!:D

Just checked the NOS one for a manufacturer and no dice! Just says, "Air Cleaner - To fit most GM applications - some chrys products also".

Thats awesome! I'm Sorry but maybe I will have them reproduced in limited quantities for us HAMBers? Haha. I wouldn't want them mass produced though! Alwayzarat, Let me know what he says asap man! Thanks!

Any ideas who could make some sheets of aluminum of the same pattern for a good deal? Or with a waterjet to do it?
