what full length headers will fit in an 1940 Ford Coupe with a small block chevy.
With the original frame X-member in place, none....
I just bought these stainless ones off of Ebay, they require some inner fender trimming, but for less than 150.00 shipped to my door, that is what I am using on my 40 pickup. I build lot's of headers, but not this time, the workmanship is great !
Look into some designed for an early 60s Corvette. They dump straight down and then straight back. Im using a set on my 32 which has a much narrower frame than a 40 so they should fit your car too.
Those look great, Marty. Just need a bead around the outside at the flange. At that quality and price, I'ma gonna order a set for my '40 coupe!
Vic, I don't think I am going to touch the outside of the flange. The main reason for me going to fenderwell headers, is getting the heat out of the engine compartment, and not fighting clearance around the starter, steering box and 3 speed column shift linkage. Here is the link.
We have HAMB members that have designed and fabricated the exact item that you need. Tried and tested over many years, and they can answer all your questions about fitment. Here's a link ...
Yes Original Crossmember still in place.
Thanks Crazy Steve
Thanks Marty, They look like Fenderwell Headers to me. They sure are pretty. What size Tubes ? Do you know the Manufacturer ? That is Cheap for Stainless !
Thanks, I was thinking Block Huggers as a Last Resort. Hate to give up any Horsepower !
Krusty40 Let me know what you find out on the Ebay Site. What year Vehicle those headers are designated for. You know the Stainless Ones Marty Bought. Thank you Sir.
Marty, Good Points made by Vic. I guess thats why they Louver "40" Hoods. I also have a concern with the Steering Box. GM 605 !
Thanks Corn Fed Will Do. I had Hedmans on a "59 Vette. They fit perfect.
62-67 SBC fenderwell headers for a Chevy II fit well, used this set up a few times
Joe, They are 1-5/8 tubes, and the reducers are 2-1/4.
They make many more types than they advertise. Call 'em and ask. I did, and they surprised the heck out of me, and made me a believer.
On the SBC powered 40 Ford pickup I used to have, I used fenderwell headers from a 57 Chevy, similar to what Marty showed earlier in this thread.
Perfect. Thanks Marty. 1" 1/2 Tubes just don't cut it.
Thanks Ebbspeed for the specificts.
