Does any one reconize this Tach?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldguard, Feb 3, 2010.

  1. I bought this tach at a swap meet several years ago and the guy thought it was a Corvair because on the back it has "6 cyl" imprinted but no brand name. It does not require a sender as it says "Coil neg" and "Batt" and "Grd" on the back. It is being used in my '47 Chevy PU with the 6 cyl engine but as it turns out it does not work so I need to get it fixed or another one like it. It is mounted in a VDO cup with a Borgeson mount.
    Any ideas?

It does look a lot like the tach that was in my '63 Spyder.

I was thinking the same thing. But with 6 cyl on the back? I don't think you could get a tach with a 6 cyl, but I could be wrong.

Doesn't it need a sending unit to work? Unless it's transistorized inside.

  10. SOHC Pontiac.
I think they marketed them about '65-'68 somewhere in that time frame.

The yellow and red stripe identify it as a factory tach. They came from the factory with different red lines depending on the engine HP that it came with. They did not use separate sending units. It looks like my 66 knee knocker. I never memorized the different red line levels.

    The cup looks like aftermarket.

  12. UPDATE :

I sent the tach off to Ron Beliles of Williamson's Instuments,Inc.
He fixed the tach, cleaned it up and got it back in a week, great service! He called when he got it and explored the options with me and was great to deal with. Got it back this morning and took a long lunch in the shop and reinstalled it and shazam! It works great. Ron can be contacted at 479-369-2551 or www.williamsons.com Also, one last note, Ron determined it was a 62-64 Corvair tach judging by the RPM and the internal body size and componets.
