I do. Circa 1968/69 after towing Bessy from Omaha NB to Hagerstown MD with a brand new VW Square back. Wherever the Army sent Dad, what ever was available was pressed into service to take my Bessy along. She always was my car....or I was her boy. I was 5 or 6 then, 61 now. Hope to be driving her when she turns 100.

    Then...

    And now...

  4. I’ve had Papaw since I was 11. Dad and I “restored” him when I was 14-15. Papaw is the first vehicle I ever painted. I was 14 years old. He still has the DuPont Centari I put on him in 1988. The last time he was driven as much as this summer was when I turned 16. @Lloyd's paint & glass encouraged me (foot in my ass, which I’m grateful for) to get him out and take him to Bowling Green and Lloydfest. The more I drive Papaw, the better the old 216 runs. He has just over 100,000 miles. I was all set to yank the 6 and put a 350/350 in him, but Lloyd has convinced me to leave the 6 in honor of Dad and all the work we did to him. That being said, I’m driving him to Kentucky twice next year. Thank you Dad! I love and miss you so much! 123_1.jpeg

My dad had my first '51 Ford towed to the scrapyard in the winter on '60/'61.:(

Supposedly getting the engine back soon

  8. The first car I could drive was totaled when a elderly lady driving a '48 Dodge pulled out into main street from a side street and I swerved into the right lane trying not to hit her but in doing so I hit a telephone guide wire and drove up it and flipped the car several times I was told.

I was a violent wreck and the recently installed 390 engine & transmission mounts were broken, I was thrown around like a rag doll, the car ended upside down with the wheels pointing to the sky and my legs under the dash, I was hanging upside down.

I imagine that 1954 Ford ended up a Ed Powell's junk yard and later ctushed and came back to America as a shiny new Datsun. HRP

  10. I got a caddy in 97 when I was 13. Loved that monstrous two with its 500 ci tire destroyer. Unfortunately when we were gone for a week apparently someone smashed it up and hauled it for scrap

It went bye bye in 2006 after owning it since 1979. Beside’s, it was off topic by 4 years and paved the way financially to work on the avatar after owning it since 1986.

I’m with you, mine will never be a hands off car. It will get dirty, scratched and beat. Just in new paint

  15. Unfortunately, no. I bought it when I was 14 and sold it at 15. A 1934 five window coupe with a '51 flathead.

  16. Still have the first car I could "claim" as mine. Sat in the 33 Pickup as toddler and grew up in it. Still looks the same, its the next one in line for a full redo.

    Then:

    Now: 10371600_863141900366232_1078405093999347568_n.jpg

Then I still have the first car with my name on the actual title, but its a O/T 68 Camaro. That was the car I learned how to do bodywork & paint and engine rebuilds on as well as to drive stick.

My first car. I got it in 1958-59. I had it running in high school, 1962. I started the current rebuild in 2011. It is still Andulusite Blue and a four cylinder motor, hopped up a bit.

This was also my dad’s first brand new car bought in October 1929

I am hoping this is HAMB friendly……If not just delete the post.

Well it is kind of my first car, 1955 Messerschmitt KR200, when I was 9 my father purchased it in pieces, by the time I was about 11 (1961) the car was driveable and my brother and I used it to “race” around the yard. The car is still with me and now has two siblings to keep it company, they are so small you can’t just stop with one.
Here is me in the drivers seat in about ‘61. ( note the deuce Victoria in the background, that became mine on my 16th birthday. ( sorry to say I do not still own it)
    IMG_4989.jpeg
and here is the same car as it looks today with one of it’s siblings.

Surprised that more first cars didn't get smashed beyond any recognition. Mine did. A rusty 55 Chevy 2 dr post that lasted until exactly one week after I got my driver's license at age 16. Car got destroyed by a 57 Chevy that tried to open the passenger's door at about 45 miles per hour. It made it about halfway through the car before everything stopped. My car was a real piece of shit, but I had big plans for it.........

ah first love! mine was a '53 ford coupe when i was 16. i worked on it into a gasser with a 394 olds, straight axle, olds rear and made the front end one piece tilt. had it until i was 22. one day i came out to the garage and opened the door and said to myself "i am tired of working on the thing" i tore it apart and called the junkyard and had the body towed away. i sold all the parts and got into harley choppers for about ten years. i got into drag racing again and thought about my ford a couple years ago. so i got a '54 ford coupe and am going to build another one. i have made fiberglass molds of the front end and trunk so far.

Still have it. Purchased on January 1 1971 and I still haven't gotten it to look like it does in my avatar. Hope I live long enough to get back to it and finish the darn thing. These other car projects keep jumping the que.

I still have mine. Saved from going to the wrecking yard in 1964. The first picture is from 1966, and the second one is how it looks now. The two years I was in the Army, I paid to keep it in a garage. A garage cost me $10 a month back in 1967 to 1969. 57 in 66.jpg 57 Pass side B.JPG

I bought my 1949 Chevrolet @ 16 in 1976 running good with a 261 truck motor... I don't have any digital pics of it from back then. bought a GTO as a senior and it just sat after that and ended up looking like this:
    Scan1745.jpg

    tore it apart in 1996:

it has looked like this since about 2000. 305, 700R4, 10 bolt Nova rear end, front suspension that will not be mentioned. then I started working on other peoples cars, and here is sits. very solid body with just a few spots of rust.
