  7. Nothing better than a 28-29 roadster on 32 rails in my opinion. Looking back at my old rpu that I got from F-head and his inspiration to build it. hotrod pics 001.jpg

Yes I do. I built this in High School/College finishing it in 2000. 22 years later, it still looks cool. I remain just as cool as I was then, too.

One of my favorite cars ever! I still have the OSR mag it was featured in several years ago and look at it often. I just bought a duece frame this spring and have been collecting chassis and body parts to build a similar heap.

I built this in 1982. Best speed was 233 mph.

I see a whole lot of very fine hot rods here but guys , HIGHBOY (by defination) is a 32 roadster with the fenders removed but has stock suspension configuration . no dropped axels or channeled frames.

I'm with you on not being channeled, that would be a lowboy, but I'm not sure I agree with stock ride height. I've never heard that one before.

Yeah, I gotta say you are mistaken as well. Dropped axles and lower springs have been used on highboys forever. No channeling is allowed though.

I'm sure that over time, definitions change a bit.and that what you said Alchemy is true to day. My dad drove and raced his highboy in the late 30's and it was pretty much the way the defination I found on line.

    Google knows all :).

    What makes a 32 highboy a highboy?
    Highboy or Lowboy.

In hot rod parlance, lowboy bodywork has been channeled, a longitudinal strip cut from the body to lower its height. A highboy is unchanneled, at stock height, but typically stripped of fenders, hood, and other non-essentials.Jun 6, 2019

In those early years I think a lot of those boys were to poor to be worried about asthetics. They were just trying to go fast.

  22. Cutting a horizontal strip out of the body is "sectioning"

Cutting the insides loose and lowering the body over the frame is "channeling".

I bet if they access to dropped axles in the late 30's they would have used them. Not everyone, but some hot rods and race cars were getting lower pre-war.

One of the most famous highboys is the McGee car, and it even had a Z'ed frame, as well as dropped axle and low springs.

  27. My old hotrodA, 31 on 32 rails. On the road since 1987, but sadly now gone to a new home in New Hampshire.
Not very trad by today's standard, but I couldn't afford a teardown and redo.
