Or do you leave them bare metal? Or possibly coat them with someting else- Boshield, Gibbs, etc? Thanks, Gary
I just used Rustoleum red primmer. Then a very small dab of grease where the shoes hit on the little bump.
i always paint them. for everyday cars i bought a couple cases of rustoleum spray cans at a sale cheap of baby blue paint. it isn't good [god awful shade] for anything else, and has been my "signature" of a brake job.
I have always painted mine, never had any issues. Powder coat works better and cleans easier during service.
never done it just during a brake job on a "regular" old car, but on my all apart for 10 years 49 Chevy I painted them.
Interesting..I don't think I ever have, but I've never seen bare metal ones either. Good idea. I thin I'd use the brightest most obnoxious colour I couls. I always lube the contact points though, Nev-r-sieze or Raybestos brake lube. Mopar makes an AWSOME lube, but I think you can only get it at dealerships (borrowed some when I worked there)
Here's mine.... I like pwdr coat. Everything is nice, neat, clean, looks good, etc. And when you want to clean it up & install new shoes it cleans much easier.
One of the things that attracted me to Volvo was they painted and protected their under-car stuff like they really meant it to last. Driveshafts, control arms, etc. Fully sealed e-brake cables. Even with that level of care, In Eastern Mass all my Volvo brake shields look like this. http://vimeo.com/4853780. More and more I've been cleaning and painting everything I work on.
There is no reason not to paint or powdercoat the inside just like the outside. It will function just the same and it won't rust. Don
