History Do You Own A Car From The Year Of Your Birth (Purposely)?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bill's Auto Works, Jan 20, 2022.

  1. Yep I bought a 1954 Chevy sedan delivery to do Los Angeles to Miami and ship it back here to France. Long story short I had to leave it with what I thought was an honest hot rod specialist and arrange to ship later when the work had been carried out. Didn't work out well but that's another story

Yes, I had a 1950 Chevy two door fastback, plan was to cut it in half and attach the back to the front of a 1954 Chevy. I've seen a few built like that and like the look. Bob

  4. Yes on purpose. Took forever to find a 60 Starliner but it was worth the wait.

  5. If I did it would be a military vehicle.

  6. If I owned a car from the year of my birth it’s possible it would be scrap metal by now.

Bought a 59 Plymouth Sport Fury out of a field near Ramona CA, just because of the year. I already cried in another thread about what happened to that car.

i bought a '49 ford years ago because it was clean and available, but "thunder road" really fired me up as an 11-year-old. i was actually born in august of '48, but the shoebox fords had already been on the market for 4 months!

Well, I was born in 1946, but at the very end of 46 so the 47 models would have been out by then. So, does that mean my Ford would qualify? DSCN1464 (2).JPG

I am a 50's car fan. But I have never had a 1952 model of any car. If I do get one, it would be either an Olds Super 88 or 98. 1952 was the first year the hydramatic transmissions were dual range, with the S for super gear! Olds was a little crazy in 1952, the Super 88 was just about the same as the 1951's except for the small vertical grille piece. The 98 was just the opposite, it's looks propelled the 1953 Oldsmobile look. A little different in the front grille and parking lights, and the instrument panel was a bit different. Of course the 52 Olds 98's were still 6 volt systems.
Right now I have vehicles of 1950, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1958 and 1959. Years ago I did have a 1951 GMC truck. So only 1952 and 1956 were not in my collection. If I wanted a 1956, it would be a Mercury, Desoto, or Chrysler.

In the OP's case of 1962, I have always wanted a 1962 Corvette. Last year of the C1 corvettes, first year of the 327.

    Great topic.
'64 for me. I was brought home from the hospital in a brand new '64 GTO, silver/black top. So if I could get a nice '64 I would for that reason, yes. That being said I have the car now that I've always truly wanted, a '55 210 Delray (see profile pic).

I'd love to but nothing from 1977 is cool. Maybe a Porsche.

Haven’t come across the right ‘58 yet, have had 1957 and 60 cars. Right now have a 50 and a 54.

  22. No, I'm not a 1932, it's my rod. I'm 1947.

That plate was randomly assigned to me at the local DMV, when I transferred the title.

My 55 Tbird was built 17 days after I was born. I inherited the car, which has been in the family for approximately 50 years. I did not become aware of the build date until I took possession. I thought it was kind of exciting at the time, but no big deal, now.

  26. I bought a '65 Barracuda back in the 80s. While not the primary reason for buying the car it was an extra kick for me. It was originally from Texas so it had a/c and tinted windows; a rare couple of additions then for the model. Plus, it had an fm radio again not commonplace then. It had the high performance 273 (dual points, solid lifters, four barrel) and I really miss that car.

I have a 1950 Merc coupe that was delivered to its first owner the week before I was delivered to my parents. That was a big part of why I bought it. Being a zero rust (anywhere) Cali car with all the purchase docs helped seal the deal.
