I finally got a cell phone that has GPS,most of my vehicles have a factory lighter that can be used to keep it charged but thinking about putting a power socket in the glove box in my 37 Chevy. I normally do not use GPS since I look up where I am going on a map before I head out but use it sometimes to see what way it will take me to get there and if its different then how I was originally planning on going.

When I am asked which would I rather have on a camping and hiking trip either a GPS or my Silva Ranger compass I always take the compass for the simple reason a GPS only works as long as the battery is charged.

Knowing how to use a compass to plot a bearing heading and set the correct declination and orienteering a map to the bearing will save your life every time.
