After the talk about George Rays 'WildCat' Drag strip, MoKan and finding out about the Kingdon Drags (which now has the NHRA logo on its site) in Lodi CA (www.kingdondrags.com) I got to wondering how many of these Independent Drag Strips are there? I was in Reno, NV a couple of years ago and they have the Reno-Fernley Raceway with a Drag Strip (www.reno-fernleyraceway.com).
With HAMB members all over our Great Country I thought there wouldn't be a better place to find out! So do you have an Independent Drag Strip near you?

Tagging all the "OutLaw" Tracks I can find here http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=...a4ad0ce2&msa=0 on my Google map.

There is a track between Mercer and Sharon, PA called Sunset Drag Strip. The track opened in 1959 and was a 1/8 mile dirt track before getting paved. It was closed for a number of years but one of the original owners started the place up again about 3 years ago. The place is a real throw-back to the 50's and 60's. They run T&T on Saturdays and have bracket racing on Sundays. A neat place and very laid back.

Coos Bay, here in Oregon, was ours, but I recently heard that it shut down. I hope this is wrong, as I was planning to run there this summer...

There's also Lakeview and Madras (my favorite) - both 1/8th mile, but I think they now have NHRA sanction.

Eighth-mile track east of St. Joseph, MO...I haven't been up there for a couple of years, and it looks like they aren't booking the funny cars and altereds like they used to, but they still have jet cars!

How about "LUCKY DRAG CITY" formerly presque isle timing assn. been in operation since the early 60's.It was always 1/4 mile, but the cars kept running off the end,so they cut it back to 1/8 mile.was ahra sanctioned at one time,I think also nhra too. This is the only strip I have ever raced at that had free beer in the pits. they are still racing every sunday as far as I know.It is located near Wattsburg,Pa, not far from Erie pa.:)

There is a strip in Wendover, but I never been at a race there because they always close up during Speedweek. Out past the old airstrip. Wish they were open the only week I get out there.

    Here are a few.

Macon National Dragway in Jeffersonville, GA, about 20 miles southeast of Macon. One of the original 10.5 tire tracks. All concrete 1/8 mile track. Electric outlets and water plumbed to most pit spots. Ran there many times though not recently. Lots of big money grudge racing late at night after the regular program is done.

    www.maconnationaldragway.com

Paradise Dragstrip in Calhoun, GA. Between Atlanta and Chattanooga. 1/8 mile, but I've never been there. I think they run on Sundays, but no cars can start until church lets out.

Bailyton Goodtime Dragway in northen Alabama. Check out the pictures on their website. Lots of history here. Never been there either, but someday...

    http://www.lakeland.racingscenemag.com/ Lakeland,Fl. Was a
1/4 mi. AHRA? national event track in the 70's. The famous pic
of a Garlits fire burnout was taken there. Now an 1/8th mi. outlaw
track. Was shut down for a while recently as their mudbog deal is
such a cash cow with very little overhead. Hear that there running
    again now.

There is one in South Butler, NY. I haven't been to it, but have watched video.

Hoping to get there this year at least once to check it out.

Here in Arkansas we are lucky we have 5 Dragstrips that I know of:

    George Ray's.....

Centerville dragway in Centerville, AR just off I-40 at Russellville. They Bracket race a 1000' track. http://www.centervilledragway.com/

Two-Lane Blacktop Dragstrip in Bee branch, AR. It's a Street legal cars only, heads-up only 1/8 mile track way out in the country side. www.two-laneblacktopdragstrip.com/

Perscott Raceway in Prescott, AR it is in the south east part of the state. It's a 1/8 mile bracket race track. http://www.prescottraceway.net/

Newport Raceway in Newport, AR uses the local Airport I haven't been there in 10 years but I found a update on a racetrack website dated 2005 that they were open. 10 years ago it was a 1/8 mile bracket track??? http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/AR/Newport.html

Ardmore Raceway, located 1/4 mi. south of the intersection of hwy. 53 and old 77 on the west side of the road.
They run both 1/8 and 1/4 mi. formats depending on what's happening on a given day.
Arguably the oldest "Continually Operating" dragstrip in the country since Inyokern Dragway got shut down.

    This is my local track..
    http://www.magnoliadragstrip.com/

They opened on the airstrip in '57, closed in '77 and reopened in the early 90s. I basically grew up there either working or racing. Good times.

When I go to Carlisle for the various events I always try to get over to this track...
    http://www.southmountaindragway.us/main.htm

I didn't think it was sanctioned but now the website says NHRA, so I'm not sure. Regardless, I like it!

Yep, there sure is and I don't think you could get any LESS sanctioned than Warrick's Drag Strip in S. Butler, NY. It opened in 1957 and ran thru 1969. Same family has owned it (and farmed around it) for all these years. They just opened it up a couple of years ago for limited racing. The original (1957) asphalt is still in use, but the track has been shortened to 1/10 mile, due to deterioration of a lot of it. The race dates for 2007 are:

    June 17
    July 8
    August 5
    Sept. 16
    Sept. 30

Definitely NOT real serious racing, but it's like a step back in time. tjm73, give me a shout if you wanna go sometime and you can join us. The drive out there alone, is worth it!!
