well, actually, jim, the 59 chevy's have been done also...they were set more canted than yours on a 50 or 51 convertible...car was from the area, i saw it at Lead East several times, and as recently 2 years ago...the car still has the 59 chevy bezels frenched in, but the taillights were changed to 59 caddys at some point..

make the lenses follow the trunk line. i don't think i'd actually use any part of the 59 lights. just mimic their shape but change it up a little. sort of elongate and curve them near the thin end. know what i mean?

...oh yeah. and make em smaller as suggested before.

I love your car, but im not diggin those tailights... they are bugging me because they dont go with the lines of the car, maybe think along the lines of late 50's mopar?

or make custom ones based on a 58 plymouth...

How about a '59 Chevy deck lid molded into the back to go with the tail lights?

its probably hard to see in the pics, but i have some round rod in the shape of a 59 chevy decklid tacked to the decklid already,,,,the decklid will be pancaked along the line formed by the shape of the round rod,,,,

those 58 plymouths are neat,,,,,,thinking hard about them,,,could put some expanded metal behind them like in my grille,,

NOW your thinkin outside of the outside of the box ;). i'd run with that idea and see what transpires. always cool when you can tie the front and rear together in some subtle way.

nope it doesn't work. the car is looking awesome but you loose me with the tail lights. honestly i would not know what to do for the lights other than start hitting the little books and just see what was popular for that style of build. there were several shoeboxes with fins similar to yours through the years so look at them. what about 57 Lincolns? or some 56 Packards canted? get you the encyclopedia of the cars from the fifties and look at the different tail lights they had back then. this book has every American car made in the fifties, i love mine and you can get a lot of ideas as to what was available back then.

No your ass makes your ass look big...

You need the medium size. '59 Chevy is too big and '39 Ford is too small.

    check these babies out,,,,,
these might work pretty well,,i would put some expanded metal behind them like my grille, and maybe a shallow bullet shaped lens

these are 58 plymouth wagon,,,,,i think they would kick ass,,,

thanks,,,,things look different in pictures,,you are right about that,,,,just thinking out loud on these,,figured id post them up and see what kind of feedback it generated, and also to help me look at it from other perspectives,,,it definitely has possibilities,,but i agree that they just look a bit too large for the car,,it definitely takes away from the lines the way they are now,,fabricating a miniature pair is one option. i was pretty set on not putting the taillights inside the end of the fins, but someone posted a picture of 58 plymouth taillights that i think would work better than the impala lights,,i actually found a pair of rare 58 plymouth wagon taillights on ebay that would definitely rock....

  24. Consider '59 Mercury or '60 Ford Lee Type lenses.......you sure don't want to invest that kind of major work and end up being sorry you did....C9

  25. before you give up on the 59's, I think el Scotto has something there. Swap them side to side and try the pointed end towards the fin.
