can Spray On Chrome take high temps?....
we will see about that...
excellent thread , im interested to see if it will withstand high temperature s , being applied like a paint im having doubts but cant wait to see your results
I also have doubts, but I wont be shure untill I try it, what I did to encrease my odds is, I used a high temp heat tolerance paint(1000 degrees) let it cure while driving the bike for 2 days, and just know applied the glossy basecoat to see if it can withstand the heat better this way, "IF" it holds(after 1 day on the bike) I can proceed with the silvering of the piece and final clear, I think my chances go up if the glossy base can hold.. we´ll see

yeah I am in the USA i am gonna order the chemicals tomorrow and spend the next few days rereading this hopefully i will have my first piece of chrome by this weekend.
200.00 bucks is allot of money no matter where you live lol
man i really appreciate your help
well guys my first atempt at High Heat Spray On Chrome just failed..!
two thing to keep in mind, first it was a rattle can high heat temp basecoat, second, the heat tems where much higher due to the stainless steel exhaust instead of just steel... but am not giving up just yet, I try it again soon with a better coating...
oh and I am doing this grill for a forth gen Nissan Patrol( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Patrol#Fourth_generation_.28Y60.3B_1987.E2.80.931997.29 )
this is my second largest piece so far, I have a plan set up, I´ll silver this piece with a silvering trigger on each and so I can cover such a large piece...
I´ll keep you posted..
thanks, buddy, I´ve been meaning to show you this..
remember how this is a 3 stage process? and how if you miss in any of them you could ruin the piece? well in my how to I omitted this piece beacuse after clearing it, it went bad on me, so I had to write the How to without it(you can only see one piece done) I had to redo this piece from 0 again.. but at the end the client was happy with the end result(made him wait another 3 days)
here I show you how I messed on the last stage.... this could happen to all of us, so we need to be extra careful...
doing a rush all nighter paint job similar thing happened to me was out of clear used a rattle can clear to get the bike to a rally worked all night on the bodywork and paint waited til the local store opened sprayed the clear and needless to say the bike didnt go to the rally guy was really upset.
was hoping to order supplies monday but it didnt happen waiting til thurday to order them been rereading this post and going through youtube videos
Spray Silver Chemicals, Concentrate, 120 ml
Tin for Silver, Concentrate, 250 mL
Wetting Agent, 60 mL
Measuring Cylinder, 1000 mL
Measuring Cylinder, 25 mL
gonna place my order today do I need any other chemicals such as silver cleaner or any additional chemicals appreciate your help
just to be on the safe side buy another silver reducer concentrate(just $10) for the 500ml bottle(the 120ml that came with the kit went bad on me in the 3rd week, you dont want this to hold you back)
and as for the wetting agent, 60ml aint gonna cut it... get the 250ml one it lasted me as long as my 120ml kit lasted(rubbed instead of spraying it)
well the piece came out ok, not my best, this large pieces take alot out of me, pumping those little sprayers is tough..
and here she is waiting for her owner, next to triple chrome pieces..
I am uploading some videos, one of them is to show you how I sprayed this large piece with two hands at the same time.. but here is a pic I took from the video..
Thanks, one thing to keep in mind, Spray On Chrome can be one shade darker than real chrome and the chrome found on those plastic grills is about one shade lighter than real chrome(they use alluminum), so.. you must tell this to the owner before
Great work man I can olny imagine your forearms are gonna look like popeye lol i
ordered it all this morning i knew i should've ordered the bigger bottle of wetting agent. not sure how long it will take to get here the company is in the next state over from me.
cant wait to get started.
it was burning man..
its ok you will have enough to practice
I waited like 45 days for my kit...
i am hoping to spray my 1st spoon tuesday. I got a pretty special girlfriend She went a put 200.00 in my bank account this morning and said order it. I ordered the dual chamber bottle from ebay that will be my only hold up the chems should get here by monday
Awesome... I wish I had one like yours...
hey did you just ordered one? I ordered 3 just incase
well... I really like the Angel Gilding Pressure sprayer but it's really expensive
how often do you have to replace spayers or have you gotten a bad one?
I got a bad one(did not spray evenly) so now I have two, but I can use the bad one for the sensitizer..
this is a short video of the piece

years ago I made a dual headed spray gun, its very rough on the edges, but I think I need to make this baby work for larger pieces...
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/wQPavu6BzRA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
the dual spray gun is pretty cool why did you stop using it? it looks pretty straight forward.
I have read that the air compressor is not your friend with spray chrome I am assuming because the air gets contaminated with oils and moisture
that´s about it, it contaminated a few of my pieces, with filters and all...
a new Hope for High Heat Temp Spray On Chrome, this time over plain old steel tubing instead of stainless steel, new high heat baseocat... seems like the clear has been holding well for the last 2 days.... tomorrow I´ll be chroming it in a Blue color....

awesome hpw many hours on the pipe so far?
What are you usung to tint your clear? Candy concentrates or...
72 hours today... I plan to spray chrome it this afternoon...
I dont have access to cany concentrates.....so I use single stage sherwin williams(from the same Excell Base brand) paint mixed with the clear instead, I use blue and magenta to make a violet tint color... some colors when mixed with clear dont go translusent... I dont know why, for example I could not make red candy using just red from sherwin williams, I also cant make yellow or orange from them...
Ok guys I went ahead and "Chromed" the exhaust pipe(just the High Heat selected section) right now is slow baking with the bike just at idle...
here some pics(uploading videos as I type)
After Blue Candy Clear Coat...
videos coming SOON...........!
Ok, Time For the Videos...
this is the Cleaning/Degreasing process...
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9z9dgSA2gJY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
after the dish soap cleaning, all you do is rinse with normal water(no need of Di right untill the silvering process) then comes the wetting agent
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PgxacQOg_mY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
after the Wetting agent rinse with normal water and start pumping the sensitizer(did make a video of it sorry) after 20 seconds start rinsing with normal water, but do a one more rinse with Di water, allow the water to drip for about 5 seconds(never let it dry) then start pumping your Silver...
