I have a 40 flathead motor and im trying to run a 42-48 distributor i have a 2 bolt timing cover but when i try to put the distributor in it wont go in flush. Is there something that i need to change on the timing gear? Am i missing something? Thanks for the info
1941 and earlier cams have a slightly longer snout than '42 up, requiring the spacer as noted above...BUT before you install the spacer, grab the cam nose that drives the ignition and pull as a quick test. Most rebuilds done in the last 30 years or so and almost all hot cams are on '42-8 blanks and you may have one, with a small spacer that Ford supplied to lengthen the late cam to fit earlier engines. This little lump is undetectable visually on an assembled engine but will pull right out thr front with no real effort.
