I traded some leather work for a running 390 w/tranny from a '63 Merc for a project of mine.I would like to know if these are worth a damn, what kind of parts are available ,etc. It's going in a small vehicle so it doesn't have to be hopped up too much, just a bit. The tranny's an auto but I would like to put a 4 or 5 speed behind it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Are you sure it's a 390...could be a 410 ;)

Everything is available for them. Great engine (whether it's a 390 or a 410...which it may be if it's from a Merc.). Intakes, aluminum heads, stroker kits, etc....

They came with toploaders so the parts to put a stick behind it are out there and rather plentiful.

Truth be told in a light car a stick probably won't be needed. These engines are torque makers.

Thanks for the info!I 'm not sure it's a 390, it would be cool if it's a 410.I did a little research on these engines, guess I'll do more, see what I come up with.
