  1. { Sorry } But I realized that I posted a photo of that showcase in the past. So here’s a new one I hope? Do ya have a story to share?[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Got us a messy snow mix today making it a good day to stay inside and do a little diecast dusting. Also recently found some nice diecast 37, 38 and 39 Chevy cars that were the perfect scale for one of my transport trucks.

  3. Wow Ray, love your collection! I also really like tow trucks, and car carriers. But what's the story on the Wadorf Nomad in the first photo? Is it one of your cool customs?

I don't collect large scale cars even though there are some killer ones I'd
like to own. I simply don't have space for them. My lack of space forced me
to sell a very nice collection of Corvette promos, which I'll never recover
from. I'm also not much of an Indy car fan but I had to have this one. For
some reason, as a kid I became really interested in Wilbur Shaw. Maybe it
was a combination of his daring look and the beautiful Boyle Special Maserati.

I have always been fascinated with the creativity of Harley Earl. His Buick Lesabre, the Buick Y-job and the Waldorf Nomad were 3 favorites cars since I was a kid. In the 90's I helped set up the Buick Lesabre at a Parents weekend car show at our Sons college GMI. Sitting in the drivers seat of that car was a huge honor for me. The Waldorf Nomad and Buick Lesabre I have are Danbury and Franklin mint diecast models. I also have a smaller version of the Buick Y-Job but would love to someday find it in a 1/24 or 1/25th scale model.
The Waldorf model was going to be my inspiration in turning a 59 Corvette into a Nomad Wagon using a tri-five Pontiac Safari roof I knew I could get. The more I studied my plan, I felt it was taking me outside my skill ability. Instead I built a model to help design a non traditional build creating a Gen-5 Camaro Wagon I call the NOMARO. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/threads/2010-custom-longroof.43918/ .
There is also another design model and a full size build I have had for 8 years. I am back working on my mid 60's Malibu Wagon that I have converted to a 2door with a little Nomad influence.

  12. Just curious as to where you got the Indy car. I have the identical model and mine was a table decoration at the groundbreaking dinner of the Andy Granatelli Museum in Auburn Indiana.

I originally saw it at the Indy museum, probably at $29.95. I passed, not because of the
(thoroughly fair) price but because I just didn't want to get into collecting large scale
cars. Of course, years later, when they were no longer available through the museum,
I searched on ebay for a while until I found one at...$29.95. That was two years ago.
I'd love to have a "Wilbur Shaw" edition.

If you're really interested in these cars check out this site:

Recently purchased this for $10.00. The fellow said he had three of the same
but this was the most complete and none would have added up to a whole car.
Obviously, the windshield frame is wrong and the rear one is missing.
For the time being I can live with it just as it is.
*Edit* - Ha! I found the headlight bar, luggage rack supports (with the
locating pins broken off) and one spare tire-mounted mirror.

It's Tuesday in my head... trust me. Or maybe Monday, or Thursday? Anyway...

Here's a flash drive I just finished building. 1935 Ford put out by Matchbox in their Truck Series. I try not to spam too much, but I'm about out of change in my couch cushions, so... if you're ever interested in buying one of these flash drive cars, they are available here-- https://www.etsy.com/shop/AutoDrive . I occasionally build other gadgets, like USB hub/cell phone charger embedded devices (there's one in my store now), MP3 players embedded in vintage radios, etc.

Oh, and 20%-50% off kicks in on the web store on March 1. Discount is automatic, so no code required.

Came across these mini diecast 50's cars. The detail is great and some even have opening hoods and engines. They appear to be HO scale and were probably once part of someone's train layout.
