Larry, I clicked on the fellow's (G. R.) name and got a pdf file which chronicles some of the deuces he had. The auction website is screwed up... Dave
They were for sale on the HAMB some time ago also, they were also covered in one of the well know magazines. I believe it was Deuce Builder magazine by americanrodder.
A friend of mine built a lot of his stuff so i saw a few of the cars come together. Damn nice with nothing spared was basically how everything was done. Im sure there will be a lot of good stuff up for auction. Tony
Nope, pretty sure it was tin, along with the rest. I never heard of anything he had not being original Ford. A couple close friends went. The cars surprisingly sold for less that we all thought they would. One i saw being built was a stunning silver unchopped 3 window and evidently that was the highest price paid. Mid 50's i believe he said which was a hell of a lot less than i would have thought. The phaeton sold for, i believe he said, 27,000. On the other hand he said the memorabilia was selling for way above what they expected. Tony
I was there. All the cars are original Henry steel. The blue phaeton sold for 32k. The silver 3 window got bid up to 50k, but didn't sell. Tony is right, some of the signs and other memorabilia went for crazy money, while some of the cars seemed pretty reasonable.
Here is a run down these are knock down price plus there was a 15% bidder fee. 32 cabriolet $30,000 32 roadster green V8 $33,000 32 roadster maroon 4 Cyl $35,000 32 3W copper $39,250 325w High boy $27,000 32 3w Met gray $51,000 32 4dr $24,500 32 3w Silver $50,000 32 3w Fib glass body $36,000 32 5w w aluminum 410 engine $$41,000 32 Phaeton $32,000 54 Chevy $15,000 32 Pontiac blue $8,000 32 Pontiac Black $10,000 454 crate engine $10,750 Kuglel IRS rear $4100. Hot Rods were nice cars , Antiques cars had paint issues.. yes it was a good time to buy cars and sell gas station garage memorabilia
I wonder if this will be a trend; car prices moderating while automobilia going up? Maybe the growing age of rodders and restorers will see guys in their 80's remain active by collecting/buying petrolania, etc. instead of buying cars. Some of those Deuce sale prices seem very reasonable. Nearly half a Mil in car sales though...
