Only the '56-57 finned DeSotos had hemis. The '58 and newer had Chrysler 'B' motors, the DeSoto hemi was gone. They also shared very few parts with the Chrysler version.
This reminds me of the 2 Blondes standing across the river from one another. The first Blonde says to the second Blonde, how do I get to the other side??? The second Blonde says you ARE on the other side!!!
If it is a two door Desoto Fin car it is a good looking car no matter what is under the hood. A 440 with the right cam would make one walk and talk if it came without and engine.
Someone probably stole the hemi before they dumped that finned Desoto body shell on the river bank. If it has really big fins (the fins got big in 57, after the Desoto hemi went away), its probably just a 361 or 383 big block, unless there are 3 different colors on the body, then it might have a 413. You are closer then I am, borrow a boat and row it over to have a look. I'll wait here for your report.
So Google map the location you were at to see the car. Then look around the map for access to get from “here to there”. If you go back to where you were and do it on a smart phone, you can use the “use your location”. I realize you may not have a smart phone though, I know a few 80+ year old that don’t have a basic cellphone, don’t want one either. Maybe take a friend/relative etc out who has one. Hope it pans out for you, I hope if I make it to 83 I’m still spotting and thinking about cars!
oh my. This reminds me of the funniest thread on the hamb. Don’t you guys skip this link. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/low-tide-muddy-find-what-is-it.442552/
The Hippo boat story should , no HAS to be turned into a movie . if it didn’t take as long as it did with the pics , no one would or could believe that story !!! Lol.
First you get you a hippo paddle boat, 2 55 gallon drums sealed, and 2 logs and chain. Make it into a raft and put the Desota on it and toe it back across the river with the hippo paddle boat. Then you open the hood and see if it has a hemi in it. If not then tow it back across the river and put it back where you found it.
Passed a finned Desoto on the freeway the other day. I was in heavy traffic so I couldn’t get a pic. Had a tunnel Ram sticking out of the hood so my guess it was running a B/RB.
