The wood in old houses like that gets dried out by repeated heating cycles every winter and they burn a lot quicker than a newer house. JB2wheeler

Damn that sucks! Dennis is a cool guy. Met him a couple years ago in Hawaii at Cruise Paradise. Glad everybody's ok. I'm pretty sure he is a Hamber.

Really sorry to hear that. I've just been watching the news here with the flooding and mudslides. The whole thing sucks. Glad he's OK.

That sucks, but on the bright side, no one was hurt, and it appears that his garage is detached from the house. I like him and his show and I hope he can still pull off a good Christmas.

Also, how great is it that his production company is named "MadStache"? That's awesome, mentioned in one of the linked articles above.

Damn shame. Hard enough to lose your home near Christmas like that and having to deal with a illness at the same time. I always liked his shows and hope he rebounds quickly.

I'm sorry to see that happen to anyone. I watch his show from time to time and think he does a good job of talking cars to a mainly non car people type of viewers.
  8. That sucks ass!!! I hope he has good insurance.. so it won't be a total tragedy.

  19. what a drag any time of the year. i had my house burn in 1982 and the worst part was all my photo albums were burned also and i can just imagine the cool automotive history he had in the house that is forever gone not to mention personal family items.

Man, how horrible. Very fortunate no one was trapped/caught inside, as it probably happened very fast.

I'll be checking our smoke detector batteries!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family, it must be really hard, especially this time of year. Belongings can be replaced. People can't.
  27. Terrible news, even worse this time of year.

    Glad everyone is alright.
  28. Having been through a similar circumstances with a fire I know you lose objects that can never be replaced but the most important thing is everyone got out safe.

It's a enormous loss but with his mothers illness and Christmas season makes it even more so,,the Gage family are in my prayers.

I have never met Dennis but I'm sure he and his family will rebound. HRP

I shudder looking at the pictures of the house burning. That's like the scene I returned to after taking my son back to college in the fall of 1983. It wasn't our house but the storage building I rented to keep the overflow from my shop stored in. A 1932 Ford 2dr, a 1934 Ford PU, and about $75,000 worth of parts and tools.............gone in about 45 minutes. The owner set the house next to it on fire to collect the insurance and it got out of control being whipped by high winds.
Unless you've ever experienced something like this there is no way of expressing the feeling that returns at even the mention of something similar. Having never met Dennis I'm feeling a sense of kinship to him right now.
