I’m here, and with the Akron-Hed off the speedster…!:( After a steady decline in performance over the summer I found that the exhaust valve seats in cylinders 2 and 3 had settled, causing a backfire thru the carb under low rpm load. Not happy with what the machine shop did in there, so gonna pull the exhaust seats out and do em myself! Hope to have it back together this weekend:cool:

Started fixing and tweaking those things on the extended cab pickup that I’ve been ignoring. Waiting for a new touring engine from Bert’s

The exhaust seats that came out of 2 and 3 were installed crooked. About 1/2 of the seat pocket has no floor surface to support the seats, and the inserts were not even touching what was there. The seat pockets are only about .15” deep, but the inserts are only about .090” thick at their thinnest point… no wonder they had settled!!! 838605B7-346B-4ADC-A83E-F379F77C131B.jpeg 757F702C-DD17-4E3D-8E47-4B9528DACC9C.jpeg

  8. UGH, that is a shame
it looks like the port is too close to the roof of the chamber, not out of the norm for early castings.
How deep is the pocket from roof of chamber to top of the bowl/port?

The ports are larger diameter than the valve heads. Machining the seat pocket breaks into the port after about .150” deep. The shop that did the work originally only put 7 seats in. They chickened out on number 4 exhaust when it completely broke out into the port. At that time I machined a .100” deep counterbore above the seat pocket, and machined a stepped diameter seat to match. This seat looked great, but I cut it out due to the shop cutting the seats really low.

New seats are made and installed!! Just a little bit of grinding and she’ll be ready to go back together

Took them all of 45 minutes once I was on the rack..

cut out old rot, shaped bone ends and glued stainless ball covers for femur, fibula and tibia
Cleaned rot off back of patella and glued a plastic patch on, re assembled with a new plastic spacer between tibia/ femur.. I asked if I was riding on Delrin and got a blank look..

Ouch!! Total knee replacement is not somethin you wanna sign up for till the OEM parts are clean wore out. Glad yur put back together and in good spirits… er maybe the meds haven’t wore off yet?;) Gotta make it thru day 3, then the pain will begin to let up

Assuming the work was done here in the states, you are most likely equipped with cobalt chrome (CoCr) implants and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) patella and knee insert

Bone on bone, couldn’t do the things I was to do. Pain? Other than the tourniquet they put on the quad it ain’t bad.. dull muscle type ache, not sharp bone like it was..

thanks for the low down on materials

This turned up in a box of stuff in the garage. Aftermarket A water pump, who made them, and is there any reason to rebuild it and use it?

The middle thing is a water pump

  25. Is there any non-convoluted solution to fitting a mechanical fuel pump to an A block, or is an electric pump the only real option?

This nifty two-man car belongs to a friend in Santa Barbara. He had Carl "Smoky" Alleman buid a "Pop" Dreyer Four- Banger to go in it!

Currently in the classifieds but I am thinking nobody wants it.
I'd like to get it running over the winter

  29. This is a Frontenac water pump, it's driven via a second crank gear hanging off the cam gear. The shaft spins the water pump, as well as a Bosche magneto!
