We picked up a small one for this year.... New 5 month old Great Dane puppy is going to be making the next week fun....He thinks I dragged home a huge stick and the wife and kids are going to fill it with toys just for him....

    POSITIVE CAMBER?
    1) Why do the Model As have noticeable positive camber? Of course this appears exaggerated by tall skinny tires of the day.
My banger handles well, has about 3.5 degrees castor on each side, 1/32" toe in, and about 2 degrees positive camber each side. With '35 wire wheels and 600-16 radials, the front tires are wearing more on the outside of the tread than on the inside of the tread (the little "nibbies" are still not worn off on the inside).

    2) Over the winter I am planning on lowering the the car by having the axle dropped and stretched and using a reverse eye spring. The company dropping the axle said they will check and correct the camber after being dropped (I would imagine they can/will also check/correct the castor, I'll ask them).

Would I be wise to have some/all of the positive camber taken out of the axle in this application?

Any experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. From my beam axle alignment days, 2°+ camber seems excessive, even for bias tires. At this point, the camber angle becomes more of a wear affecting angle, than a handling angle. We used to see higher camber, particularly on the left side, but this was old school theory to conteract road crown on two lane roads. I would have the camber lowered with a simple axle bend to 1/4-1/2° +. Any competent alignment shop with the ability to bend light truck axles can do it in about thirty minutes. No heat.

Denis, try Jim ( rockman29 on the HAMB) who made my finned cover on the previous page of this thread. I think he does a plain (non-finned) cover also.

So would it be wrong to build a banger pickup just so you can pickup a Christmas tree?

Waxhead thanks for sharing my contact info. Attached is an updated flyer for anyone interested. We had an unusually warm day here in Massachusetts today, temps were in the mid sixties! Took the opportunity to take my 31 roadster out for a ride today with my kids. Couldn't have asked for a better Christmas! Hope you all enjoyed yours as much as I did.

Right now it's a '29 RPU...have the parts to make it a roadster too. Pretty basic A hop up, A running gear, mach. brakes, a few speed parts, paint, and down the road!

This is a question....probably a dumb one but I'll ask anyway. What constitutes a "Banger" is it a Model A, T or other early four cylinder only ? Or is it any four cylinder ie. Chevy 153 Iron Duke etc.

I consider it any pre 1935 four cylinder engine. But opinions may vary.

  25. If it sounds like a loose ball-peen hammer bouncing around the bottom end, It's A Banger!!
I agree with Rich, American made or not, cam must have been in the block at one time.

I could get used to this roadster weather at Christmas! Have been messing with different size carb jets, last night swapped in .043's and went for another spin today. Ran great. IMG_0089.JPG . Took another spin today.

  27. It's very motivating! And thanks man!!

Thanks youngrodder. Enjoyed it while it lasted. Unfortunately the Partys over, snow and freezing rain today. Been collecting some parts for a new rear axle. Time to start putting things together. image.jpg
