Great old-time racing footage, right on the sands of Daytona Beach.
My wife has got the old films of racing on the beach too.Bruce.
Back in 2008 my wife and I took a drive down the beach and it was really very cool to be able to do that.
Is it still allowed today?
Kind of surprised that you were allowed to cruise on the sands of Daytona back in '08, not at all sure if they'd allow that today.
Parts of the beach are still drive-able.
Great link back to a great era! It brought life to an event I could only read about at the time.
In '70 and '71 we were able to camp right on the beach right by the old North turn in front of the "Oldtimers" bar before moving to the infield at the Speedway the night before the 500. The cut in the dunes and a very few remnants of the North turn stands were still visible. Took a ride back down there in '87 and the "Oldtimers" had been surrounded and dwarfed by new development, hardly recognized the area. Odds are I'd really have to search for it now.
If these films are from the '50s I'm interested to know whether they show any Jaguar XK120 roadster!
We drove the beach in 75 on our honeymoon.
And also in 78 at the turkey run too. A lot of fun.
