OK trying to save a few bucks. The wife smoke the rear axle in the hotrod. I pick up a 9 inch drums and brakes are junk. I have all new from the 44 I know the backing plates fit. So will I have a issue with the drums or will I be good.

  2. Only suggestion is bolt it up and see. The spacing from the housing end where the backing plate bolts up, to the axle flange may be different on the D44 vs Ford 9-inch. That is your critical dimension as it determines where the drum fits relative to the brake shoes.

You can fit it up and try since you have all of the parts, but it looks like it may not work. Depending on what year 9" you have, the brake offset is either 2 3/8" or 2 1/2". The Dana site lists the brake offset for a 44 rear as 3.189". So it sounds like the Dana backing plates are flatter than the Ford?
