I don’t know what you are seeing, but the 4-71 blower is all there !

  2. Quite a few years ago I was looking for one of my old muscle cars. I had the plate number (In fact, I still have the plates!) but I did not have a vin number or an insurance card. The plates came up "No longer on file" with the DMV. I talked to a local cop and he said:
    1) Try calling my old insurance company and ask them to research the vin for me. I didn't try that as I ditched Allstate 100 years ago so I doubt they would entertain a special request from a former customer with nothing in it for them.
    2) He said that the State Police would most certainly have the ability to match the vin that went with that plate number had the car been used in a crime. The issue there is I can't imagine a State Trooper out there doing a search into a classified records system because somebody misses their old hot rod.
Wish I had another idea. Never knew some of these old cars would take such a hold in our young minds.

I tried the DMV license number, Vin number combination, and I was told by the California DMV that they didn’t keep records on cars that were SMOG exempt. Lol, the mid engine ‘57 WAS SMOG EXEMPT!
I don’t even have a clue who I had insurance with back then. Humm, did I have insurance???

  4. Time to build another one! Dan making the #2 car is as close to the original as we might see.

if I recall correctly, at the time yucaipa was not in the smog area, thus exempt from smog regulations at the time. on the other hand, Redlands was in the smog area.

14 year thread. Got to read it all; I think I remember someone stating they had it for awhile but that might have been BS.

Dan, Have you tried Lost Muscle Cars on FB? He does pretty well at finding vehicles. Does not have to be a Muscle Car.

Not really helping here but I remember all of the VIN numbers on my cars. Maybe this will jostle a memory. . .
    VC57L. . . . . .

If you want to try the vin you will need to use. VB57L******z. VC57L is a BelAir noted by the “C”. “B” is for 210 which mine was. The L is the LA California plant in Van Nuys, California a suburb of Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, California Department of motor vehicles does not keep Vin number records on cars that were smog exempt. My car was definitely smog exempt so that’s a dead end. Been there done that so we’re stuck once again.

Well, it was a reach but. . . . At least you had an idea about the VIN. And I learned something today- I didn't know about the C and B. I assumed C for Chevrolet. Was a 150 an A?
