I got myself some new torches to cut with and I’m having some difficulty getting them dialed in. Acetylene at 5lbs and oxygen at 40lbs. Lincoln Triple, cutter torch. No issues getting a neutral flame. It looks good sitting still, then when I hit the oxygen it deposits soot all over the metal and blows out a flame fan across the area of the cut like it isn’t getting enough oxygen because it isn’t blowing through the metal well. The soot and red flame across the area of the cut seems to support that, but the flame is neutral and looks good against the metal before I hit the oxygen to cut. Any tips on remedying this issue other than turning the oxygen up and offsetting the neutral flame?

Here is a pic of it while cutting with the oxygen squeezed.

You may try turning down the Ox at the regulator say to 20 lbs.
You set the neutral flame with the cutting lever depressed.

If it is like my torch it has 3 valves.
One each oxy/acet. to achieve neutral flame for heating and one wide open oxy operated by the lever to blast through the preheated metal.

Turn the main oxygen knob on a good 3/4 turn. Then adjust the second oxy knob on to adjust the flame. The main oxygen knob is the one at the line like the acetylene. The higher knob is your oxygen/flame adjustment.

Your not getting enough oxygen. The oxygen also blows the metal away besides feeding the flame.

  5. Two valves by wrist. One by lever.
Open Oxy valve by wrist all the way.

Crack open oxy valve by lever and
Crack open acetylene by wrist. Light and adjust with valve near lever

I should have mentioned this lincoln cutter is either partnered with Harris (the head is unbranded, the mixer is branded) or has been replaced.

Is that an adjustment knob under the lever?

There are three tubes running up to the tip.Where is the third knob for O2???? Two small ones-neutral flame, single bigger one for cutting blast O2

  10. That doesn't look like a new torch.
If it only has 2 valves then it must have a screwed up cut valve to act like that.

3 tubes into the head mixer.
One is for high pressure oxy for the cut.
Second is acy fuel for flame
Third is low pressure oxy for flame

Gas 5-7 psi... Oxygen 25 psi......Open the Oxygen valve at the double barrel end of the torch about 1 to 2 turns, the forward Oxygen valve should be off...now open the Gas valve about 1/4 turn and light it.
Now turn the forward Oxygen valve until you see the "Feather" just disappear in the blue flame and you are ready. Make sure your cutting tip is clean and open before starting the whole process.
When you press the Oxygen cutting lever it should "Crackle" that means a good sharp (clean) tip

  13. Great! All we need to do is find the 3rd knob

  14. That's an old Harris (not Lincoln) model 1100 cutting head. Goes on the 1000 torch body.

Your 3rd valve is under the lever

It's so old it's running a victor style tip

Thank you. It’s a lincoln cutwelder system which is tanks, cutwelder regulators, plastic packaging that holds things, etc.... anyway i had my doubts about the torch when the harris tip i bought was a direct match. However, this is not branded harris like harris heads are, though the mixer is branded harris so i suspect maybe lincoln partnered with harris on the cutwelder system. The newest cutwelder is two head, not a triple, so idk. If nothing else we can agree it is a harris torch. I’d rather have that so I’m happy.

Hook up your air hose, plug in the 220 and cut away. Oh, that's with my plasma cutter. I have a torch that haven't used in years.

  20. That torch you show on post #7 looks like the one Noah used to clean up after the flood.
