i do indeed intend to make both hem and wire edge dies. and the second answer is yes. i will be case hardening them after turning, then chucked back up and polished to get the crud off from the furnace.

    thank you sir.

machinist? no. i wont insult a good machinist by saying i will be anything close. i have however done a bit of engine lathe work and mill work when i got out of the Army... i worked for a small tool and die company in shipping/receiving and ended up doing a fair amount of machine work. i think once i have the machines in place it wont take long for me to "get the hang of it" again.

I'm just giving you a hard time Traves :p...I've been talking to my boss at my new job about doing all of this stuff and offering our own line of dies along with hole flaring dies...he didn't seem that interested anyway, and I'm concentrating on sand casting parts this year so I guess it works out well for both of us ;)...good luck brother, and if you need any help or info just let me know...I'd be glad to hook you up with tooling and whatnot...

Outfreakinstanding! The fact that you've already decided you're going to case-harden them, and the fact that you're planning to make wire edge dies, tells me you've got a good plan to offer the right stuff, and it's going to be good quality.

Send me a PM when you get the tipping dies done, and I'll empty my change bucket to get them.

  8. How about making a generic (is there such a thing?) adapter to mount a wheel on a HF bead roller? It's something I'm struggling with right now. Wouldn't have to be hardened or purty...

I stole the above shot from Jim Russell, from the metalmeet forum. Without permission, but with thanks. :D

Or just sell a bolt on wheel kit (large wheel for the crank, small wheel for the adjuster).

i'm not sure about that one, but why not... wouldnt be too hard to do, and a wheel for the tensioner would be pretty trick

  10. Good luck my friend. I tried to call you the other day........................

good morning, and thanks for your interest!

i mentioned above, if you need a custom profile, all i need is either a detailed scale drawing, or even better, a piece of the profile you want to create. pickup bed beads should be pretty straight forward in shape, and relatively easy to do. shoot me a PM with pics of what you need and we'll see what can be done!

    thanks again!

I'd be interested in tipping dies, and perhaps a couple of body line dies, depending on which ones you make.

I didn't read every reply, so I don't know if this was mentioned yet, but, a set of gas tank roll overs would be nice to have also.

Will your bead dies have soft edges or sharp 90 degree edges like the harbor fright ones? Their flange dies tend to shear rather than step.
Also if we give some ideas for features would you be willing to make your own bead roller? Thanks! Tyler

    OK. here's an update...

we've had a few legal issues, health issues with the wife and problems finding suppliers for a few things. i ordered an aloris tool post and holders a few weeks back and it JUST shipped today. that is the MAIN reason i havent taken any orders or $ as of yet. i'll have it by monday at the latest, and will be turning them as soon as i can get the post fitted to the lathe. so, here is the deal...

send me an email (lets keep Ryan's bandwidth clear! :D ) to: trada.llc@gmail.com
    first come, first turned!
tell me in the email what you're in need of. the first things to be made are going to be the tipping sets, 90* flange sets and hem sets...then i'll be able to tackle the the body reveals, body lines, floor beads, and so on.

i've been working on a website that i'll be able to take orders from soon, however the guys who've PM'd and emailed and replied here to this thread have first go.

so, remember, send me an email, tell me what you need and i'll start making that list up and soon as they're turned and come back from the treater, i'll start shipping them out!

thanks again, its been a LOT more work and effort than i had thought in the beginning, but its almost time to open the doors!

i'm almost positive that the woodward fab roller has the same shaft end diameter as the HF machine does... .865" or just over 55/64" and under 7/8"

if the woodward fab setup has a different size shaft, PM me with the measurement!

baring anymore tooling woes, machine disasters, supply trouble or the building collapsing on my head, i should have 10 sets ready to go to the treater the middle of next week, and i'm told that its only a 5 day turn around right now!!!

thanks again for all the interest and all your patience!!!
