Sold my late model so I am driving my F1 daily now. I love driving a flathead to work and I'm a huge fan of coffee in the morning. So I find myself looking for a bit better cup-holding solution than my current one.

    Let's see your cup holders.

I was waiting for a walmart style console. I was going to say a Good roll of black duct tape. I use one in my 56 f1oo,63 Fairlane, 27 track T, and my 72 gmc

How come you can't get a plastic one that hangs off the door any more? I haven't seen one in twenty years... Maybe there's a reason.

A piece of 4" ABS is duct taped to the seat in my work truck. Seems to work great for me!

Remember the chrome ones that screwed to the dash and swung around? They were the best! Every old Jeep and truck had one in it, normally right in the way of 3rd gear I might add.

You could get one out of a late model that pops out of the dash and build a bracket for it under the front center of the seat. That way its out of site when not in use.

I have found a nice wide bottom travel mug and sometimes a small
duffel bag on the seat are great spill preventers. If you have a favorite gas station coffee and want a paper cup there are also ones for motorcyles that clamp onto the handlebars. If a guy or gal modified or made one to fit on the column it would be cool

  13. Try a boat shop for the old swinging style, or an rv shop for a flush mount flip open type, they can hide against the side wall. cheap too.

Keep the roll of Duct Tape.
It's non-skid and holds the cup perfectly.
    Simple is sometimes the best.....

That or buy a Commuter Mug:rolleyes:

  15. why not engine turn a piece of flat stainless, roll it to your cup size, & weld up with a clip mount or screw mount. It's get people talking & be different

Iv considered making one from one of them finned aluminum oil filter covers or a piston .With a bracket to the lower edge of the dash.

  20. Kevin, I've got one of those 1950s sort of cheapie plastic holders that
hangs on the door......you place the hook part in the window slot.

Won't hold anything much larger in diameter than a can of soda pop.
Sometimes when empty, I happen to bump it and it falls off. So not
    the greatest.

Usually, I just take my coffee mug with lid I always use.....slide it over to
the passenger side of the seat, and wedge it under the armrest on the
door. Then, of course, I always forget it's there and when I open the
right door, the mug falls out, spilling coffee onto the rubber
sill plate, which then dribbles out over my rocker chrome. I think your
roll of duct tape would be better than my system.

Here's 32coupedeville's car, you can barely see the cup holder by the seats in the center console made into the floor, really slick, simple and useful.

Be a real man and keep that coffee between ya legs. You tend to drive a bit safer too. :)

  24. You can still get those plastic ones that cost like a buck or two at Advance Auto at any rate, so I'm sure most of the other chains.. or even (God forbid) Wal-mart... have them.

I had at least one in my previous DD, which was a square body Chevy that didn't have anything factory. In fact just putting it under the rubber seal on top of the door panel wasn't good enough, it ended up screwed to one of the mounts for a strap handle on those doors. Which is why it ended up getting broken when I had to work on something on the roof and caught it coming down, which is why it ended up with a huge hose clamp around the top to hold it together. I forget if that was the first or second one I broke, though.

Which is a thought, a large hose clamp screwed down someplace would probably do the job without the plastic holder, at least for cups that have tapered sides. A couple screws below it or paired through it so it can't spin over. Would be SOL with a soda can or bottle though. Might be too rat-roddy for some people's tastes.

Try searching the web for casino supplies or poker tables. You will get a list of folks that sell stuff to help you make your own poker tables. They have a lot of cheap and easy drop in holders in plastic or stainless in various diameters. I got a couple of SS ones for my current build that way. Same firms also sell on ebay. Also, most boat shops have a nice variety - including some which make good dash mounted deals because they hook on at 90 degrees and have a gimbal mount to compensate for motion. Some motorcycle shops sell similar ones for the big cruiser bikes. My personal advice is to NEVER put one on a door! You only make that mistake once. Then just fab up a wooden base for a couple of holders on the tunnel. Gary

I took one of those slide out ones, mounted it under the seat, and built a gizmo with a hydraulic actuator that operates on vacuum, push the switch and it slides in or out, you can't see it when it's closed. didn't cost me a thing, just some time and stuff out of some of my junk.
