  1. I finally made it this year, it has been a long time coming. I had a great time, I saw some old friends and made some new ones. All I can say after being there for the first time is, dont think about it GO ! Plan that trip for next year, just go and stand on the salt and experience the history.

Here are some of my photos,

Got a giggle from the firewall tag on the Kennington-Spears Lincoln in the first set of shots:
    Why a Lincoln?

Great shots!! Now I AM going to go next year...money or no money! I WILL finish and bring my '57 T-Bird "Battlebird" (F.I. Y-Block)replica, AND my '62 Ford "Starlifter" replica. The real Starlifter broke/set 36 records the year it went there with Fred Lorenzen & Moody after winning the only NASCAR race it was allowed to run in (Atlanta). For Bonneville they pulled the 406/3x2s and dropped in a 483 c.i. FE 427/2x4s to "Blast the Salts" with the streamlined '62 Galaxie Convertible with a '61 Starliner roof bolted on (Ford printed a brochure showing it was available with a fiberglass roof option).
    See you there!! Tom

Fantastic photos-many cars not seen in previous threads. Would love to know more about that gray primered '34 with the closed car windshield, the G.M. (?) hoodsides, and, most of all, the big EL8 Flathead motor. Now THERE is a hotrod that didn't come out of the cooky cutter.

That tan colored Stude Lark had a great story. The owner (Perry something) is from Australia. He flew out to Chicago (I think it was Chicago), bought the car and drove it from there to the salt flats. He hung out with us all day and was staying the entire week. Then it was off to Long Beach to ship the car back to Australia. If I remember correctly, he was an editor or something for an Aussie hot rod rag. Cool guy. I thought it was cool that he was driving that sucker that much.

  12. Glad you guy are enjoying the photos, here are some more.

  15. You are correct sir ! It was really cool, it had a Yamaha FZR watercooled 1000cc motor. Here are a couple of photo's of the motor.

I love the belly tankers. I had a strange idea the other day, how about a boat pontoon. Any one ever try putting an engine in one and taking it to Bonniville?

  18. Greezy or El Presidente,

Now that it is marked off the list, I can only take so many big trips a year. I dont know if I could attend every year, but when I go back I would want to go with my own Hotrod.

I did have a great time hangin out with you guy's.

Thanks just PM-ed him and thanks for the awesome pics!

  25. Then thanks to Megan (Chevygirlrox) I had to go checkout the airport/old air force base. It has a lot of history and I guess it is used nowadays as a local small airport and also for a filming location. There is a plane there on display left over from the Con-air movie ( I have some shots from inside that plane ).

But the sites big claim to fame is that it is were flight crew's were trained for famous planes like the " Enola Gay ". They have a replica of the "Little boy" bomb in the small on site museum.

Big Mac the Aussie bought the Stude in Dayton Ohio for $36,000. It was super clean under the hood, no wires showing ZZ4 crate engine, nice car but a ton of money for it. The guy sure had a good time and loved to talk. Another $3500 I think he said to ship it back on the boat. He said there were no Studes in Australia which I really wouldnt know is true or not. Apparently it had 3.78 gears in it and he was worried about running it that hard all that way so he stopped in Salt lake to have the oil changed. I advised him not to drive it on the salt and saw that he listened.

I'm glad you made it out to the Salt this year, I knew you would love it. So LARS and this in one year? Wow, we are really breaking you out of your shell! :D

Too bad there wasn't an Ed Hardy tag sale in Wendover you could help Denise shop at ;) :D

    CBB,
Thanks for showing the pic of my car! Was a great time this year at B'ville! Been going for the last 15 years and I can say the weather and the salt was about the best I have ever seen. I was working with the V4Flakester that you show a pic of its engine on the first page. We had lots of nagging problems mostly with ignition but got it up to 178 mph regretfully the record is 191!! I did some of the body stuff and built the headers.

    See you there next year??
