We have early-eighties S10 rotors on the front and mounted a set of original Cragar five spoke SS wheels on the car. All seemed to go OK but we're having trouble finding a set of quality lug nuts for the wheels. We've bought metric lugs and 7/16 lugs and even stock Chevy 1/2 x 20 lugs and keep stripping them out when we tighten them up or have the lugs bind up and snap the studs. Not really sure what size lug nuts to use with the S10 rotors or where to buy quality lugs that won't strip out when wrenched up hard. The metric snapped the stud, the 7/16 were too small, the 1/2 x 20 stripped out inside under tightening.. Any help from anyone who is also running S10 rotors and Cragars would be a HUGE help. Got a lot of suggestions, but no hard "I did this." kind of answers. Frustrated trying to find what should be a simple "I bought these." and "I bought them from." sort of answer. Help would really be appreciated ! ! ! Almost time to put the car in for the Winter but would like to get another cruise night or two out of it of we can sort this out. Thanks—

  2. Try measuring the stud and thread pitch? I know a strange concept....

Or...keep trying random size lug nuts and screwing up wheel studs.

  3. Agree with 57Fargo. Figure out the thread diam and pitch with measurements. The correct lug nut should thread on easily by hand, not bind up.
Go to a real auto parts store and have them look up and find the correct lug nuts for the rotors, carry the rotors in if you have to. Then you will know the thread needed so you can buy the correct style lug nuts for your Cragar wheels.

Also, make sure when you find the correct thread that you also get the correct length. If the stud shanks bottom out before they tighten, you will have loose wheels.

Well, "problem" solved ! Thanks for both the good advice and snarky remarks. Took Jalopy Joker's and The Shift Wizard's advice and went directly to Cragar for the lugs. Worked out great ! Seems that all of the other lugs that we bought on-line were just crap. Poorly made, bad threads that bound up, not to spec, etc. and managed to confuse us entirely. Got the "real deal" and done ! ! ! Thanks again for posting . . .
