You have brought up an interesting topic. Are redlines H.A.M.B friendly? My guess is no, even though I think they look really good. Not the modern day radial redlines you showed on the pic of the Cragar, but the square sided bi-ply on the TT. Pretty sure they 1st showed up on the GTO in '64, a muscle car tire in that case. I wonder how they would look on the front of my '57 with skinny Raiders or TTs with 10" pie crusts in the back (blackwalls out). Opinions everyone? No shitstorm ,please.
No Cragars on pre-61s (some exceptions). No wide whites on '62 and newer. No wide whites on Cragars, EVER (unless you want a 70's Pimpmobile).Thin whitewalls and Cragars? Just go buy the Astro Supremes. Cragars on a four door? That WAS a 60s-70s high school thing, and I have a warm spot for that look because I was there. Gotta be stock rim size .Fat tires would be pathetic. Anyway, that's my own personal rule book, but I believe that more than a couple guys read that same book.
I ran the Cragar/Redline combo on my Econoline and my Comet. I never got any negative comments, Zombie liked the Comet so much he included a picture of it in Traditional Rod & Kultures coverage of the Drags at Eagle Field.
Personally I like Cragers with blackwalls and that is cool in my books. The bigger the white sidewall, the uglier Any car becomes. jmho
Growing up a lot of people had them on most anything. My preference is they have to have a deep dish - the skinnier they are the more out of place they look. That's my humble opinion but the great thing about this hobby is DOES IT LOOK GOOD TO YOU?
After seeing car DEUCES is deadon, redlines would make that Pontiac look 100% better, white walls just don"t do nothing for the cars looks.
I LIke it! Cragars are cool in the right application-and I'd say this looks good-If this was a two door I'd ditch the white walls but with the four door it looks good! IMHO
I hope I don't offend any of you, since I seem to have broken a couple rules by A) Having Cragars on a "newer" vehicle and B) Raised white letter tires I thought it looked nice anyways. I miss that truck, for some stupid reason. It was my daily shortly after high school for about 4 years.
Yea I like them. I think they make a good combination for cars that have chrome or stainless trim/bumpers. The look good sitting still and really come to life when the car starts rolling due to the different angles and steps that the wheels have.
I have them on my 55, but for your ride I sat no. As stated, it screams "I sooped up mom's 4 door yak". Keep that poncho cool with steelies or maybe a set of 5 spokes. That being said, it's your car...do what ever the hell you want to do man.
Im trying to scrape up the cash for 4 new 15s now so these 4 14s and 2 more 15s will be for sale in the classifieds for the price of one new one, if I dont sell localy first.
I have to disagree with the wide whites in one case. Teh ugliest car ever made in my opinion is a 57 Vette, (sorry guys) but a friend has a decent original one near here , he added a nice new set of Cragar SS wheels with a 3 1/2" wide white and it really suits the car. Matches real nice with the white coves on the side I guess, gotta see it to believe. My two cents (Canadian)
I have them on my caddy. It was on the car when I bought it. I want to get some astro supremes though, anybody want to trade.
