I have a rule in life that I will never visit a city where the local TV news website has a column where they list the "weekend shootings" EVERY WEEK. 30 to 60 every weekend. those are just the ones that got hit.

Bangers never claimed to be great shots. They make up for their lack of aim by firing multiple times. That way, sooner or later, you hit someone or something.

    Well we're here and we're having a ball !
Big thank you to Roger ( slowforty) who has been the perfect host.
Spent yesterday playing tourist in downtown Chicago. Very impressed. Then a great little car show in the evening.
Today we met up with Greg and a few others to drive to Kalamazoo.
We've got a crappy hire car but it was still great being in the convoy here.
Loving the show. Absolutely knackered now! Walked miles, met some fabulous people and some beautiful cars.
More of the same tomorrow and try to catch up with more people who have contacted us.
Sunday is the Gilmore museum and then it's off to Detroit for 48 hours. Any tips on a reasonable mid price hotel?
You guys are really looking after us.
    Thank you.
    Brett and Bob.

How close to Detroit do you want to stay? I was in Novi a couple of weeks ago. Nice area, reasonable hotel (Double Tree), and lots of local car happenings. Getting to downtown Detroit from Novi looks easy enough on the map.

  5. What do you plan to see in Detroit, that will help determine hotel recommendation.

Arriving in Detriot on Sunday evening. Flying out from Detroit airport early Tuesday morning to Florida. Hope to do Ford museum so I guess if possible, something near to them both if that's feasible ?

Novi is little far out for Greenfield unless you are renting a car. Canton or west edge of Livonia would be better

  8. Since you are leaving early Tues. morning. I'd stay at a motel near the airport. The Henry ford is only about 10 miles/15 minute drive from the airport. The Quality Inn on Middlebelt Rd. is about $55 per night and they go up from there. Google "DTW Airport motels" and the google map showing motels and prices will come up.

    Little update.
Gilmore museum was fantastic. Bonus was a car show also running.
In the afternoon we drove to Detroit, little hotel by the airport and a quick cruise downtown.
Monday was a full day at the Ford museum. Bloody big place and we covered the lot. Knackered and happy by the end of it!
Today was an early start. Currently sat in the airport having dropped our shitty hire car and we're now off to Fort Meyers, Florida.
Off to pick up a ramp truck then start looking for something to sit on the back!!
    Loving America!

    Thanks Darkfour.
    Hi Greg.
Well we got to Fort Meyers no problem and I'm now the proud owner of a ramp truck.
Took off up 75 and first stop was a model A to view in a small town called wilisden.
Sweet car, totally stock and in good shape but a little pricey for me. We hit the road again and I was a bit miffed when we sailed past the Garletts museum to late to turn round. Bet that was good but need to save a bit for the next time!
Landed in a place called Jasper, little motel and some zeds then it's off on the road again.
Heading up 75 then across towards Charlotte and on to Charleston.
Anything we should be looking at on the tourist trail? Fancy looking round a few scrap yards. !!

You will be in NASCAR country. Probably not a lot you might like, but it's car country. Did you see the Bentley leather body at Gilmore ?
Charleston is a charming old town. Lots of history.
Keep us posted chaps......interested to see how the truck fits in the container !

    Seen a few nascar signs.
Yes. The Bentley is a beut! We get a handful of them racing along side Bugatti's at our local track. Prescott Hill Climb.
Try googling it and you will see our next event, The Autumn Classic. It's All American!
I'm praying the ramp truck fits! It looks bloody big to me!
We have reached Dobson NC. Long drive today!

If you get near Joliet, IL go by the Joliet Prison and see Jake and Elwood. It is a really neat place to visit just don't want to stay there. There is a hole in the fence to crawl through. I was there 3 weeks ago.
