Due to overwhelming demand (thanks, both of you), here is the '56 Vette YKW find I picked up last year. I'm not the one who scored it out of the YNW, a neighbor of mine did, and I had no idea, until I was having dinner with another neighbor who mentioned this all original '56 Vette down the road going up for auction on Bring a Trailer then next day. What!!?? I have always yearned for a C1 Vette. That night I PMed @squirrel to find out what the original engine numbers should be, and the next morning I hustled over to see it. He said I could have it for what he had in it, the reserve, as he could not keep it (for personal reasons), but he had to know right away, he had already given them some dough for the auction listing. So after looking it over a bit, checking the block number, we shook hands and he called to cancel the auction. Whew, close one!

So that's how I got it. Now for the back story: The gentleman that owned it was an insurance agent, apparently a loner, who passed away and left everything to his secretary, big property, big house, vehicles, everything. The Vette was in the YNW, flat tires, last registration 1974. My neighbor Jim's wife is friends with the secretary, so he had an inside line on grabbing it, which he did.

Jim towed it home and spent a few months, along with a retired Chevy dealer mechanic, getting it in shape. They replaced the fuel tank, lines, complete brake system, tires, rebuilt the carbs, fluids, tune up, etc.. They got it running sweetly, purrs like a kitten. Unfortunately Jim never did drive it, however that's likely to happen soon once I get it out for a spin.

I haven't driven it yet either. It came at a time when I was in the the throws of building my new Garop (garage/shop). I spent the remainder of 2020 building around the Vette, lumber and tools leaned against it. I'm at the point now where the shelving is in and most everything is put away so I can turn my attention to the Vette for a spring first fling.

The car has had a couple of changes, Hurst linkage, speakers in the kick panels, a slide in stereo mount, but it's pretty stock other than that. I'll probably keep it that way, got two hot rods already. Also not intending to restore it, got two other hot rods projects that keep me busy. It will need some seat work and the steering feels a little loose. Just want to hop in, cruise around and pretend it's 1956.

Here is a video that was taken when the pulled it out of the YNW. Watch that tree!

Great story, but what is YNW? Somewhere in northwest Yukon? Or is it some airport abbreviation?

That is a great score. I would love a C1 some day. Problem is every day the value on them keeps going up. Great if you own one but not so good if you want to. Very cool find, and it will be great cleaned up and all sorted. WOW

Love it... stories don't get any better than that. Looks like he slammed a 6pack on the way home the last time it was driven!
