I was going crazy looking for this picture. It turns out that of every one of my photos that
I scanned and put on cd this is one of the very few I missed. Taken in March 1976, Westmont,
Ill. (Really? 42 years ago?) The '69 roadster in the background was mine.

    This one makes me cringe

  7. Yeah, true. But I'd love to have it. Or at least go back to that time. Wearing a Stroker Mcgurk hat and bell bottoms, too.

Some good pics Enloe. The Sting Ray with the "modified" nose is not my cup of tea either but it was his money and time which he apparently thought was well spent (he may get an argument from a few).

I remember seeing Ken Clark in the Seaport car out of Ohio (at the time of the picture-later out of Ontario) pull the wheels like the pic. Great memories. Also saw Renfroe's Rattler II run as well.

The cool thing about the gold 62 of Ron's Porting is that there are two other early Vettes getting ready to run. Good old days for sure. The grandstands look familiar but not sure of the track.

As to Fred's Plastic Toy it is a cool car that must have some decent history that I wish someone would share. I believe it ran out east and Canada I believe. I have probably ten pictures I have gathered over the years and know very little. Here is pic of their rig and with the two guys with matching uniforms they must have been at least semi serious competitors. Anyone with any input? 8241d7cdd57b8bb2fbcbd6cc480e1c4e--fred-plastic.jpg

Do you know the story behind that car? I believe it has been posted before. If you do not know the story I believe you will like the car even more after reading about it. It is a cool car for sure.

Enloe the story of Astoria Charles (Snyder) is a sobering story IMO and it deals with his having to interrupt his drag racing of the car to fight in Vietnam where he was killed in action. You can find it on the internet quite easily. Sad tale. It was a 435 to start with but thru Motion they got one of the earliest over the counter L88s I believe.

As to the white car above it is a copy of the Bill Mitchell XP700 which I kind of liked personally. Not a fan of all of Mitchell's work but he wanted a personal rendition of the Vette and GM in 58 built the red one pictured below first, which he drove. It was later in 59 converted to the silver car. I believe it met its fate when they used the bones of the car to make the Mako Shark in 61 I believe. As I have stated before I was interested (I suppose) in buying one of the front clips that you could buy but the seller wanted a bunch of money and I passed. The car is not what I would have designed but for some unknown reasons I like it one day and not so sure the next. Kind of different and cool in a strange way. The burgundy and the silver one don't look too bad I definitely like the Mako Shark better.
I think what really turns me off of the white one is the white lower control arms and white springs staring at me.

I agree with you on the lower control arms for sure. At the very least I would paint them chassis black in the hopes that they disappear.

I like the Mako Shark as well but the front overhang may be a bit much. I know the XP700 overhang is a bit much but it is almost like an ugly dog that grows on you-kind of. Mitchell liked do dads more than performance it seems so these suit his ideas probably.

On the white car I would have made the stripe wider up the hood and over the trunk and maybe that may help it

Did the owner of post 2887 go on to draw Bart Simpson?

Think of it as the precursor to the "Corvette Summer" car. Now that was hideous.
    (I'd take this one.)

I'm also digging this pic because of the cars lined up in the background.

None at all. It was sitting at a local gas station 42 years ago. I took two photos and booked.
