I don't know about that but I read that after he sold it there was an electrical fire and the new owner came back to him and complained about it.

  6. Maybe Cragar Dragstars. They do have that star design. My memory isn't that good, especially with things I don't care about and that's not a wheel I wud have run on any of my cars. Most of the people I knew that bought Cragars bought them for their '60s muscle car, i.e., Chevelle SS, GTO, Fairlane GT, Roadrunner, etc., and used Cragar SS's. The guys with the C2 and up Vettes usually ran Americans if not the stock rally wheels.

The wheels on the '66 coupe in post 1292, are one of Dick Rader's less popular styles. I just had a discussion with Black Panther a couple weeks ago on the rare wheels thread about this same picture. Defiantly unique, but not the best looking wheel from back then.

Thanks for the clarification bowie. That's one thing that I like about the Hamb there is more combined knowledge here than in a set of encyclopedias.

    These were from Pike's Peak

Friend of mine just sent these to me. This Hemi powered Corvette was built and owned by John Fairbanks. I had heard about this car, but never saw it run at NE Dragway. This car survived and is still around today, but the hemi is long gone. White trash 1.jpg John Fairbanks White Trash.jpg

Found these on the vintage photos thread. I think they will disappear there soon because of way too many new cars and people are complaining.

    hope they stay here.

    This one well known

I just was reading this and wondered myself if this was him. I have read that he gained famed on west coast by racing a corvette, but I thought it was road racing. I have loaned my book out that had stories on him and eddie sachs. anyone know if this is him?

Doug and BA King, although there are others more knowledgeable on Corvette road racing than myself this is the same Dave McDonald. In the video you can see his black 57 Nomad (that he used as a tow car-it was I have read supercharged). Dave was really a great talent. He started in drag racing in the 50s and went into racing Corvettes (both C1s and at least one mid year I know of-a 63 Z06). He went on to drive Cobras for Carroll Shelby with some success as well. I believe he ran in the Daytona 500 and of course the Indy 500 where he was killed in the often publicized crash that killed him and Eddie Sachs. It was the fiery crash that if often the subject of movies showing the horror of it all. He was driving one of Mickey Thompson's roller skates at Indy I believe. A pretty good all around car guy and driver with a sad ending for sure.

On a happier note the D/G 58-60 Vette above has me quite curious. I am assuming it is either during 68 or 69 and would really like to know more about the car if anyone knows.
