Not a racer but to me the most important option I can find in a 56-67 Corvette….if it doesn’t have this…… I am not interested. Saw this one last night in Whittier. IMG_6477.jpeg

The fender shows this to be a '61 fuel injected car. Why would it be in AA/SP?

Because like many Vett's the FI got tossed after it screwed up and guys could not get it to run right OR someone lied and added the badges much like we see SS on so many Chevelles and Cameros .

Doug, the 1961 fuelies were placed in AA/SP for 1961. You will not find it in the rule book as the NHRA hastily added the class after the rule book went to print. They felt that the car would be competing against the earlier fuelies that had 290 horse and they would be giving away 25 horsepower which was arguably unfair. Mazmanian ran in AA/SP in 1961, as did Lockwood and others of course that ran the 61 315 hp cars.

Titus really glad you got the car as I believe you appreciate it for what it was and is. I am sure some of the stock guys would like to see it restored to stock specs so that we can see what one looks like when they left the dealership or so I have heard. Hope it stays with the race theme to represent the era of drag racing.

So @jimdillon, with the '61 at 315hp I understand that logic. But would there have been any supercharged cars in this class too as the AA usually signifies? Or would they be in gas class? Thanks a lot, Jim. BTW, how's the Caddy project?

Caddy is a piece at a time and with summer around the corner I find myself pretty busy with the ranch, honey do's and hot rods as well. Just finished bonding on the brake linings on the rear brakes and trans brakes for the Cad. A little more prime and then finish paint them next and then move onto painting the engine and on and on. I wish I could clone myself so I could get more work done. I do want to enjoy the summer a bit though so will get done what I get done. I have some fiberglass work to get done and that is something I do outside and want to get it done this summer-plus just today I took on a Corvette fiberglass repair project for my cousin.

The sports classes were for stock cars and modified sports for modified cars. So no supercharged cars in sports as a general rule ( I suppose if you could prove a Paxton Supercharger came with your T-Bird you could make an argument that it was "stock") . Of course you are correct if you had a BM/SP Vette (wt to cubic inch) and you supercharged it, then it would move you into AM/SP. Sports was weight to advertised horsepower.

You are correct the AA designation is more a gasser deal for the supercharged cars. The 1961 AA/SP designation was a one time deal in 1961. The 315 cars were B/SP in 1962 and the new "big" engine (327) was A/SP in 62 with the 340 and 360 horse cars.

Hope you enjoy your summer too.
