Skidlid, your car looks pretty cool and since you are in the Motor City I hope to see it in person one day. I have done a decent amount of research but more information may help track down history on it. Sometimes that is easier said then done. The fact that it has a big block narrows it down a little, if that was the configuration it ran. Add into that it had a four speed instead of a Doug Nash limits it as well. Sometimes these old drag cars were cannibalized a bit when the racing career ended. My avatar car was a drag car allegedly from 1964 through the 1977 season in New Mexico and when I bought it in 1982 it had been canibalized and they threw a 1958 rear end assembly and a 327 engine out of a Camaro in it to make it more stock I suppose. The inner fenders still had a fuel block setup for a dual quad like a tunnel ram and the hole in the hood was probably around 14" by 24" so it had a pretty good dog house. Your scoop is more common and is definitely what a bunch of them ran. They had cut the roll bar out of mine as well..

There were a few big blocks for sure but the small blocks were more common. How many points were on the roll bar and if it has a Dana 60 did they use a four link and how wide a tire can it take? If you have answers to these questions it may make it a bit easier. Even better is if you have a owners/drivers name or what it may have been called or where it raced. Good luck-keep us informed.

These photos were taken at the GM Tech Center in Warren Michigan. The car was the gentleman sitting on the fender's company car. I forget his name and position but he was senior design staff. The story was something like while at lunch or in a meeting, maybe on his birthday staff made some modifications to the car. And now you know the rest of the story.

That looks like Chuck Jordan. If I remember right he was eventually VP of design for GM.

I don't think so Jim! There is no reserve so it should be interesting. Like I said PT Barnum is selling it. I can't believe it is the same car they claim it to be.

There doesn’t appear to be much to work with body wise. That is a lot of money for a chassis number, steering column and windshield. Oh well, that is what the restoration guys are all about.

I was kinda of hoping they’d give some details in the article about what happened to the car after 1960 and how it ended up a funky custom with a q jet intake/carburetor??

Unfortunately not. It was found in Florida, I think sitting in a driveway. Believed to be the number 2 car, both others have been found and restored. It had been a drag car at some point. It wound up in Carlisle, Pa. then was sold to someone from Ind.? This is all from memory from about 10 years ago.

  29. A local guy is involved in the ownership and lawsuits involving that car. It’s claimed that it was stolen at some point, but the whole story is sketchy. Turns out it was stored a couple miles from my house ( in Indiana) for some time.
