I was online last night looking up some things and run across some random Corvette shots...thought I would share....hopefully they haven't been posted recently, sorry if they have . 16140756930307641520847473856977.jpeg 16140762033301819947102858806324.jpeg 1614075812586983138842544710336.jpeg 16140758563605659947782485587678.jpeg 16140758852347172718461320033304.jpeg 16140761320688633997162531546433.jpeg 16140761803051156946509394970881.jpeg 16140763240378312959935136727922.jpeg

Don't know anything about this one. I believe the pic was taken in the mid '80s @ Milan Dragway. Thinking maybe @jimdillon could use it in his book.
I give my permission for that use.

    Note the non-stock hardtop.

Bruce thanks for thinking about me on that one but unless you were the photographer I could not use it. A cool 61 with an aftermarket top. I had one of those tops and gave it away on one of my moves. Probably is Milan since as you know, Detroit and Motor City were not abundant with grass and trees. Milan was always one of my favorites since the pits were and are pretty nice IMO.

As hard as it may seem to believe I am still working on the book. When I submitted the book last summer to a publisher they thought the topic was too narrow since it did not include what people call C2s and C3s. I have always really liked the solid axle cars and always collected info on them just to have it and then later decided to write the book on the solid axle cars in the 60s and 70s. I did not have enough research material to do the midyears or third generations cars justice so I thought including them would be an insult to their history in a sense. After a couple of comments from people I spoke to, they thought it would be great if I included C2s and C3s, so after a bit of mental gymnastics I decided to take a hint and rewrite the book with some of the most important C2s and some C3s. I certainly cannot include all of the Corvette drag cars since there were hundreds and would not even know how to document the owner/driver/results. I believe the book will be better with the changes I am making but the work and extra research has been extensive. I really look forward to finishing it.

I have been able to have access to some pictures of midyears and solid axle cars so hopefully there will be enough pictures to help tell the story. Still working on the permissions which is easier said then done. Still always looking for pictures with permission and background on cars so the complaints after the book is written are not too extensive.

    Jim,
I did take that picture. Unfortunately it isn't very good, a picture of a picture. I could scan the original but I don't think it would be much better. Just thought it might be a later version of a car you already had information on.
I've been working on a book about Quickchange's for a loooong time. The problem for me is wwhere to stop. Every time I build a new one I think, "Oh, I should put that pic or info in. Now, where to fit it?"

Have you thought about self publishing? Scott Marshall (CNC-Dude on here) has done that and said he would help me if I wanted to go that way.

What do you need to prove authorization for publishing pics?

Bruce I have thought about self publishing but have a second publisher in mind which I am probably going to go with-I hope. That publisher has different requirements than the first. The first wanted to read the manuscript first without pictures and when I submitted pictures I had to have permission on each one. I have been letting way too much of my other stuff slide in favor of getting this book done and I need to get back to my normal life.

The publisher I have in mind requires the manuscript and the pictures labeled so I have quite a bit of work ahead of me on labeling. Some of the pictures will not be described in the text so I will have to put in some notes to describe it. When you are talking about 250 to 300 pictures the work is pretty obnoxious. Also I have some people that have said they will send pics etc or permission and they apparently forgot. I am trying to be philosophical and tell myself whatever happens, happens.

For publishing pictures, as I understand it, I need the permission of the person that took the photo or the person that owns the images (if they bought them for instance with the rights to publish them). There are some caveats that you may be able to use pictures from the early 60s for instance if the owner/photographer did not re-up their copyright but that goes down some blind alleys I am not sure I want to visit.

As to the pictures, I have written articles in the past with pictures out of magazines from let's say 1917 and the quality was so-so or the pictures were washed out a bit and I had to go to bat with the magazines. They want high resolution pictures and I have had to tell them the pictures were necessary for the story irrespective of whether it was extremely nice quality. The 61 you have will probably not pass muster with the publisher. If it was a car that should be included with some background then that may have to be revisited. On the other hand Roger Sinistri Jr gave me a picture they took at Indy in 1963 of the Rapid Rabbit where the quality is poor but I am trying to save it for the book. Not sure if I will make it. On the other side of the scale I had one photographer send me his high resolution picture of the Midwest 57 he took at Motor City and it took forever to load in my email. When I first opened the file it was size really large but quite nice in resolution. Wish they all were that nice.

A possibility? They are the only ones , that I have found so far, that are of the reverced type rim.
Fairly smooth from outer lip to the point where the spokes start, no step, cast wheels are usually not built this way...back then....also the ones on that vette thats pictured look like they are plated and not a polished cast wheel.
    Just a thought. 20210224_183816~2.jpeg

  26. A million years ago I came across a collection of awesome images from ace photographer Rex Marshall and thought these vintage shots would fit here!
